Chase Bliss announced Clean on 11 October 2024, and the compressor pedal was available to order at $469, with shipping from Chase shops starting 1 November12.
Clean is a two-stage, fully analog stereo compressor. Guitar World describes it as having mono-to-stereo switching that generates a moving stereo image, and MusicRadar reports 16 dip-switches across the top of the pedal12. The control set is six dials and three switches: Dynamics, Sensitivity (Ramp), Wet, Attack, EQ and Dry knobs, plus switches for Release, Mode and Physics2. The Dry and Wet knobs blend for parallel processing, and the Dynamics dial moves between classic and feedback limiting, with feedforward limiting engaged via the Dusty slider on top2.
Other features reported include three EQ modes, a dynamic EQ section that responds to playing, adaptive attack and release, a pair of swell modes, a physical modeling feature for what MusicRadar calls "organic instability," emphasis filters for "cassette-style noise reduction," an onboard noise gate, a sidechain input for syncing with external instruments, and MIDI and preset options12. Guitar World reports that the Physics control brings "organic wobbles and fluctuations" and that pushing the compressor produces tube amp-style sag2.
"Developed slowly and through a variety of experiments, Clean explores the wild side of compression and brings the interactivity of distortion circuits to a clean signal."
Guitar World reports Chase Bliss calls Clean "our most versatile and original circuit to date," and MusicRadar quotes the maker's stated aim: "The idea behind this pedal is to make clean guitar as fun as overdriven guitar"12.
