Crazy Tube Circuits released the Unobtanium, a two-sided overdrive pedal, in December 2022. Guitar World reported it on December 7 and MusicRadar on December 9, both describing a unit that combines a Klon Centaur-style circuit on one side with an analog amp-in-a-box circuit on the other.
The right side is a reproduction of the Klon circuit with the original germanium diodes, with knobs for Gain, Treble and Volume1. Two toggles sit alongside: one switches between true bypass and the original buffer bypass, the other between stock clipping and compression, and enhanced gain and headroom1. MusicRadar describes the second as "a switch that takes you between a standard Klon-style drive and a modded mode with extra gain and headroom"2.
The left side has Volume, Gain, Tone and Emphasis controls, the last described as a pre-drive EQ for presence and bottom-end response1. A third toggle selects between SSS and ODS voicings. Crazy Tube Circuits describes SSS as a "clean and transparent overdrive with natural organic compression" and ODS as a "higher gain overdrive with enhanced mid frequencies and harmonic overtones"1. Internal trimmers adjust EQ and volume boost of the overdrive voicings, and an external footswitch input allows a third-party footswitch to control the SSS/ODS toggle12.
Each side can run independently; used together, the maker says the pedal provides "near infinite smooth sustain"1.
Both outlets list top-mounted jacks, a passive series effects loop between the two sections, and click-less true bypass footswitches12.
