DigiTech announced the DOD Overdrive Preamp 250-X in September 2025, describing it as "the 10th generation of the iconic 250 overdrive" and stating that "it is set to be released on September 25, 2025"1. The maker says the pedal shares similarities with the DOD 250-50th Anniversary model but "it is not a limited edition"1.
The 250-X keeps the two-knob layout of the DOD Overdrive Preamp 250, with Gain and Level controls, and adds a three-position toggle. DigiTech says "The toggle switch allows you to select from three different overdrive effects"1. In Silicon mode, the maker says, "you can capture the classic '70s' sound"; in Lift mode, "The Lift mode eliminates all diode clipping, effectively transforming the 250-X into a simple boost pedal, which provides clean boosts at low gain and dirty boosts at higher gain settings"; and in Asymmetrical mode, "The Asymmetrical ( ASYM ) mode engages a rich, even-harmonic overdrive through its asymmetrical clipping circuit"1. The pedal is true bypass, and DigiTech says "it can operate at 9V, 12V, or 18V, allowing for more headroom as the voltage increases"1.
Guitar World's review lists the controls as Gain, Level and Mode, with three clipping diode settings, true bypass, 9V center-negative or 9V battery power at 7mA, dimensions of 67 x 57 x 119 mm and a weight of 255g2. It gives the price as $1092. Gearnews reports the pedal "is now available for order at Thomann for $117"3. DigiTech says "The 250-X will be available at all local DOD/Digitech dealers and your favorite online retailers"1.
"This pedal shares similarities with its counterpart, the DOD 250-50th Anniversary pedal; however, it is not a limited edition"
Guitar World's reviewer describes the middle position as removing the clipping diodes and the third as "an asymmetric clip, closer in voicing to the ROSS Tan distortion," and calls the 250-X "a big improvement over the stock 250" while finding it "less versatile than the pedals which followed"2.
