Dunlop announced on 22 November 2022 a special edition of Jerry Cantrell's signature wah pedal, named the Firefly, with glow-in-the-dark details inspired by his 2021 solo album Brighten12.
The Firefly is a refreshed take on Cantrell's signature JC95 wah, which was released in 20101. Sonically, the new edition remains the same as the original signature model, which Guitar.com describes as discontinued1. It has a custom-voiced tone and a side-mounted control knob for fine-tuning the toe-down frequency12. The unit has a raw iron finish, and its tread carries Cantrell's initials and the bee artwork from the Brighten cover, with glow-in-the-dark features on the tread, front badge and bottom plate1. Guitar World reports firefly artwork and a "JC Cantrell" logo on the tread, both of which glow in the dark, as do the front badge and bottom plate text2. The bottom plate carries lyrics to the album's title track12. Guitar World notes that previous editions featured lyrics to Alice in Chains' Black Gives Way To Blue and the band's 2018 album title track Rainier Fog2.
The pedal follows a 2019 makeover of the original, the Rainier Fog edition, which was limited to 500 units and had a distressed look and a treadle design based on Cantrell's tribal orca tattoo1.
