Dunlop released the KH95X Kirk Hammett Collection Cry Baby wah to the general public, Guitar World reported on May 2, 2022, after a limited-edition, autographed version of the pedal went out on April 11. It is the second signature Cry Baby wah for the Metallica guitarist1.
The KH95X puts the tones of Hammett's previous signature Cry Baby, the KH95, into a sparkling purple enclosure with a gold-embossed logo on the footswitch1. Guitar World reported that Dunlop says it provides an "arresting" midrange wail plus a thick top end1. Gearnews described it as the same model as the earlier Dunlop Kirk Hammett Signature Wah apart from the new aesthetics, with an extended mid-range and a full wah sweep, and noted a skull guitar logo on the treadle2. Guitar.com reported that the pedal is based on Hammett's own Cry Baby Rack Wah setting and has a special edition purple sparkle finish to match his Ouija guitar3.
Hammett, in comments carried by Guitar World and Guitar.com, tied the finish to that guitar:
"I always feel a great energy when I play my purple sparkle Ouija guitar. I thought it would make a killer, sonically spiritual connection to have a pedal with that same outwards vibe."
Guitar World reported the pedal is available now for $1991.
Guitar World reported that Hammett is only the third guitarist to receive a second signature Cry Baby, after Jimi Hendrix and Slash, and that the KH95X is Dunlop's second signature Cry Baby of the year, following the February release of Leo Nocentelli's Mardi Gras Cry Baby1. Gearnews noted that the Nocentelli model comes in a similar finish2.
