Dunlop showed the MXR EVH Modern High Gain pedal at NAMM 2026 in Anaheim, the company said in a new-gear roundup published on February 2, 20261. The pedal was designed in direct collaboration with Eddie Van Halen in 2015, according to Dunlop12.
Dunlop describes the pedal as delivering "EVH High Gain tone in raw, uncompromised and crushing form"12. Its controls are Output and Gain, which Dunlop says balance saturation and clarity, plus Bass, Mid and Treble2. A Boost switch adds gain, a 55Hz/80Hz switch moves the low end between what Dunlop calls a fatter or punchier response, and a Noise Gate control sets the gate threshold2.
In a Premier Guitar video from the show, Dunlop's Bryan Kehoe said the pedal shares a platform with the 5150 overdrive, with output, bass, mid, treble and gain controls, and keeps the same noise gate3. He said the original 5150's boost was an input boost only, while this pedal adds an output boost at the end, and that the boost is fixed rather than variable3. Kehoe described the bass switch as shifting focus between 80 Hz and 55 Hz3. He said the circuit was developed with Van Halen at the same time as the 5150 overdrive3.
"So, this is his vision of a a modern high gain tone. And it's not like some R&D guy's version of what he thinks Van Hanley would like. This is Ed's."
Kehoe said the pedal is "not shipping till spring" and put the price at "199" dollars3. Dunlop's own product page lists no price for the pedal2.
