Electro-Harmonix rebrands Deluxe Electric Mistress as Andy Summers Walking On the Moon pedal

January 23, 2024 · 3 sources

Guitar World reported on January 23, 2024, that Electro-Harmonix has rebranded the Deluxe Electric Mistress as the Andy Summers Walking On the Moon pedal1.

The pedal is an analog flanger with Rate, Range and Color controls2. RockBoard's PedalPedia lists it as "Andy Summers' signature analog flanger effect pedal" and says the Rate control sets modulation speed while Range sets the width of the sweep2. Guitar World describes the Range control as adjusting "the width of the modulation by lowering the frequency range while maintaining consistent upper frequencies," and says the Rate knob covers "a wide range from slow sweeps to vibrato-style fast warbles"1. The Color knob sets the intensity of the effect, which Guitar World calls "feedback, regeneration, resonance, etc."1.

Guitar World also describes a Filter Matrix switch, which stops the LFO and "freezes" the flanging effect's frequency cancellations in mid-sweep, creating metallic tones that can be "tuned" with the Range knob1. The article notes the Electric Mistress has no Manual control for variable center delay time, and estimates its fixed center delay at around 5 to 10ms1.

RockBoard lists the circuit as analog, running on 9V DC, center negative, at 40mA2. Its width, depth, height and weight fields show placeholder values of 000.00 mm2. No price or availability date appears in the reporting.

MusicRadar reported in September 2023 that Summers "seemed surprised to find out his new Walking On The Moon signature pedal with Electro-Harmonix based on the Electric Mistress was called a flanger at all"3.

"Who calls it a flanger? I would have called it a chorus"
