Boss sets January 2026 date for first PX-1 effect expansion

Boss plans to release the first expansion of the Boss PX-1 Plugout FX effect library in January 2026, according to reports published at the pedal's August 2025 launch. The new effects will be distributed through the Boss Effect Loader app for iOS and Android¹.

Guitar Pedal X names the January 2026 additions as OD-2, DM-2 and DC-2 Model Passes at $9.99 each, with demo versions². Guitar.com and Guitar.com's review give the same three models and month³. Guitar.com reports that new effects can be auditioned for free and then purchased for $9.99 each¹. Guitar Pedal X describes the demo mode as introducing "a small audio gap every 30 seconds"². Guitar World reports that additional paid-for effects will be added from January 2026 and can be trialed for free⁴.

The Boss PX-1 launched with 16 effects: eight permanently installed "1" models and eight that can be loaded into the pedal's eight user memories¹. The full launch list, per Guitar.com, is OD-1 Over Drive, SP-1 Spectrum, PH-1 Phaser, SG-1 Slow Gear, CS-1 Compression Sustainer, TW-1 T Wah, SD-1 SUPER OverDrive, DS-1 Distortion, CE-2 Chorus, BF-2 Flanger, PN-2 Tremolo/Pan, OC-2 Octave, PS-2 Digital Pitch Shifter/Delay, VB-2 Vibrato, DD-2 Digital Delay and DF-2 SUPER Feedbacker & Distortion¹. Guitar Pedal X reports that the first eight are fixed and that the order of effects on the pedal follows the order in which they are downloaded².

The pedal has three clickable knobs and a graphic LCD of 128 x 48 dots, with stereo input and output, tap tempo, MIDI clock sync for time-based effects, Bluetooth and USB-C connectivity for the app, and support for external footswitches and an expression pedal⁵. Guitar Pedal X reports the pedal has no battery compartment because the screen takes up that space². The Effect Loader app requires a Roland Cloud account².

The PX-1 is priced at $249.99¹. Guitar.com's review states that the 16 launch effects are included and that the January 2026 additions will cost $9.99 each "to download and keep forever"³.

Boss positions the pedal as a compact route to its back catalog. The company told Guitar World: "The PX-1 Plugout FX is an innovative hardware platform that captures the timeless Boss compact pedal experience in one versatile pedal"⁴.
