Ibanez announced the Pentatone Preamp (PTPRE) on January 3, 2023, as part of its 2023 new product launch1. Guitar World reported the pedal was available to preorder for $2492, and MusicRadar reported it would ship in February3.
The pedal combines distortion, a preamp and a five-band EQ in one stompbox1. Its five sliders cover -10 to +10 dB and each lights up1. Above the sliders are a two-band EQ with Treble and Bass controls, Gain and Level knobs, a Bright toggle switch and a toggle switch for an onboard noise gate1. It also has Pre Boost and Post Boost control knobs1. Guitar World counted 12 control knobs in total, four toggle switches and two footswitches2. MusicRadar described the bass and treble controls as passive and the five-band graphic EQ as active3.
The Post Boost is assigned to one footswitch, while the Pre Boost is engaged by its own toggle switch1. Ibanez also sells a separate IFS2L footswitch that can be assigned to the Pre Boost, and the same input can give the IFS2L control over the five-band EQ section1. MusicRadar gave the 9V current draw as 110mA3.
"This all-in-one pedal, distortion, preamp and 5-band EQ is designed to be a Swiss Army knife of guitar tones in one stompbox."
Guitar World reported that, according to Ibanez, the pedal covers "simple tone shaping to crunchy overdrive"2. MusicRadar described it as "quite a Mesa/Boogie-flavoured experience from a big name" and said it would require time investment to dial in3.
