Intensive Care Audio's Vena Cava Filter is a four-in-one multi-effects pedal combining filter, oscillator, distortion and ring modulation, according to a Guitar Pedal X article published on November 3, 20231.
The article describes the pedal as working as textured modulated distortion, simple distortion, a multi-waveform LFO or ring mod, with a Blend control for dry-to-wet balance1. It lists the following controls1:
| Control | Function |
|---|---|
| Blend | Dry to wet |
| Gain | Gain |
| Volume | Volume |
| Ring | Ring mod frequency |
| Frequency | LFO speed |
| Peak | LFO depth |
| Ring switch | LFO on/off |
| Voice switch | Wider or narrower notch filter |
| Waveforms | Random Slopes, Random Steps, Staircase, Sine, Triangle, Square, Ramp Down, Ramp Up |
| Footswitches | Bypass, Tap Tempo |
The reviewer wrote that he mostly uses the pedal as a modulated distortion rather than a filter, and that the Blend knob allows it to be used entirely as a distortion or entirely as a multi-waveform LFO1. He also noted a learning curve: "The default labels don't always make for the most straightforward experience"1.
"There are other LFO Modulated / Trem-Distortions and Trem-Fuzzes out there, but none quite so versatile or as distinct as this one."
The article also states that Intensive Care Audio's next release, an overdrive and boost, was due later in November 20231.
