Jackson Audio and guitarist Joey Landreth announced the Golden Boy Mini, a smaller and less expensive version of the company's Golden Boy overdrive pedal, in early July 2023. MusicRadar reported the news on July 61; Guitar.com reported on July 7 that the pedal was available on Jackson Audio's website2.
MusicRadar described the Mini as "a streamlined and more affordable version of what is the company's best-selling pedal so far"1. Guitar.com said the Mini is based on the Bluesbreaker/King of Tone circuit, as the original was, "giving it an open and transparent sound"2. MusicRadar cited "the classic drive versatility of the Bluesbreaker and King Of Tone" as its inspiration1.
The pedal offers a choice of Asymmetrical or LED clipping modes and a three-band Baxandall-style EQ12. MusicRadar said the asymmetrical silicon diode setting clips the top and bottom of the guitar's waveform and is "ideal aggressive rhythm parts," while the symmetrical LED diode clipping "offers higher headroom with less compressed tone for when clarity and more subtlety are needed"1. Guitar.com reported that the pedal has top-mounted jacks and a small footprint2.
The Golden Boy Mini is $17912. Guitar.com gave the original Golden Boy's price as $299 for comparison2. Guitar.com reported three anodized colorways: standard gold, black limited to 1,000 units, and rose gold limited to 500 units2.
"With its exceptional harmonic detail and abundant headroom, this compact overdrive pedal takes the concept of transparent overdrive to new heights, using a simple and powerful interface"
