JHS Pedals has added the JHS 3 Series Tape Delay to its 3 Series line, the company's product page shows. Delicious Audio reported on May 19, 2025 that the pedal follows the 3-Series Delay and the Oil Can Delay in the company's delay offerings1.
The pedal has three knobs and one toggle. Mix sets the blend of clean and delayed signal, Tape Speed sets delay time from 15ms to 950ms, and Repeats sets the number of repeats after each note2. The Flutter switch, down in its standard position, introduces mild modulation in the up position that JHS describes as reminiscent of vintage units with mechanical wear2. JHS says Tape Speed simulates the tape motor of the RE-201 speeding up and slowing down, and that the Mix control was called Echo Volume on the original unit2. Delicious Audio reports that the pedal uses a digital circuit to replicate vintage tape tones and their modulation, known as wow and flutter1.
JHS lists the pedal at $99.002. It takes 9VDC negative center power, draws 65mA, and measures 4.42 by 2.38 by 1.22 inches, with the input jack on the right side and the output on the left2. JHS says each 3 Series pedal is made by the company in Kansas City, MO2.
"The JHS Pedals 3 Series Tape Delay is a simplified and faithful throwback to these classic units."
JHS traces tape delay to the late 1940s, when Les Paul linked two Ampex Model 200A reel-to-reel recorders, and cites Ray Butts's Echosonic in 1953, the Echoplex EP-1 in 1961 and the Roland Space Echo in 19742. Delicious Audio describes the pedal as part of the company's mission to deliver affordable, boutique-quality pedals1.
