The Keeley Moon Fuzz is the Oklahoma builder's first new fuzz release in years, according to Delicious Audio, which published its report on December 21, 20221. The pedal is a variant on the fuzz circuit included in Keeley's Dark Side multi-effect1.

Delicious Audio describes it as "a rather simple, 3-knob + 1-toggle quad op-amp Muff-style fuzz" whose four stages of gain and fuzz do not lose low end1. A toggle switch in the middle of the case selects among three filter shapes: Flat, Full and Scooped1. The report says the pedal is built to deliver thick, deep fuzz "designed to extend your guitar or bass frequencies as low as possible"1.

MusicRadar reported in April 2022 that the Moon Op Amp Fuzz was created for an exclusive partnership with The Guitar Store and is available worldwide through its Reverb store, priced at $1492. That report lists level, fuzz and filter controls and a three-position toggle offering flat, mid-boosted or mid-scooped tone shifts, and says the pedal has four internal gain/fuzz stages with origins in Keeley's Rotten Apple and Dark Side pedals2. MusicRadar also reports that the pedal was inspired in part by David Gilmour's Pink Floyd tones2.

Robert Keeley told MusicRadar that the circuit was redesigned rather than adapted:

"The new Moon Fuzz could be considered a heavily modified Rotten Apple (or Dark Side), but this circuit has changed so much that it's really a different design."

The two accounts differ on the filter switch. Delicious Audio names the three positions Flat, Full and Scooped1; MusicRadar describes them as flat, mid-boosted or mid-scooped2. Keeley's own notes, quoted by Delicious Audio, call the three EQ phases "Scooped Mids 'classic', Flat EQ, or Full Range"1. Keeley also describes the pedal as "a supermassive destroyer, spinning galaxies of gain," with "tidal wave bass response"1.
