Maxon has unveiled a European-exclusive edition of its OD-9 overdrive, the OD-9 Creamdrive, in a semi-gloss cream enclosure1. The pedal is made in Japan and available now12.
The Creamdrive uses the same all-analog JRC4558D op-amp circuit as Maxon's OD-9 reissues, which the company says revived the '80s-style Tube Screamer OD-9/TS-9 sound with improved low-noise performance1. Gearnews describes the circuit as identical to that of the standard OD-9, with the difference in the housing2. The two outlets name the chip differently: MusicRadar gives JRC4558D1, Gearnews JRC45581C2, and Guitar World refers to the JRC4558 IC3.
Controls are Drive, Tone and Level13, which Gearnews lists as Gain, Tone and Volume2. The pedal is true bypass with a low-noise mechanical switch, and has an easy-access compartment for a 9V battery or a 9V DC supply1. Guitar World reports it runs on 9 to 18V power or a 9V battery3.
No US list price was given.
"The circuit of the Creamdrive is identical to that in the OD-9, the difference here is in the housing."
Guitar World ties the release to the earlier OD-9 Blackdrive, a limited edition in a semi-gloss black enclosure, and reports that offering proved so popular that Maxon introduced another limited edition3. Gearnews says the black run sold out worldwide quickly2.
