Mod Kits DIY has unveiled the Saturator, its newest build-it-yourself effect pedal, which the company says offers everything from a clean boost to full-on saturated distortion1. Guitar World reported the kit on July 22, 20221. MusicRadar had already covered the Saturator on September 27, 2019, describing it as a build-your-own starter kit2.
The Saturator's controls are a level (volume) knob and a soak control, which dials in the amount of symmetrical soft clipping applied to the guitar signal1. When the soak knob is fully counterclockwise the guitar signal is unaffected and clean; rotating the control takes the user through various stages of overdrive and distortion1. MusicRadar reported that with the soak knob fully counterclockwise the pedal runs clean, that up to +30db of clean boost can be dialed in through the level control, and that unity gain is at eight o'clock2. MusicRadar also described a footswitch to turn the pedal on and a bright-red, laser-etched metal enclosure2.
All kits come with instructions and use point-to-point wiring1. A pre-drilled enclosure is included, and the Saturator's is MOD Kits' first laser-etched design1. All necessary parts are included; beyond that, the maker says, all that is needed are hand tools, a soldering iron and solder1. The pedal operates on 9V battery power, and a 9-volt adapter must be purchased separately1. MusicRadar reported that MOD Kits DIY rates the kit 2 out of 5 on its difficulty scale2.
The Saturator is available for $47.951. MusicRadar listed it at $47.95 plus shipping, ordering from Amplified Parts2.
