MXR's Randy Rhoads signature Distortion+ was revealed on January 8, 2024, with the pedal delayed until mid-spring, according to Guitar World1. The design was shown by Rhoads' sister, Kathy Rhoads D'Argenzio, who co-developed it with Jim Dunlop21.
The pedal carries a black-and-white polka dot finish on the enclosure and box, matching Rhoads' custom 1979 Karl Sandoval V-style electric, and his signature appears on the pedal itself21. It has two dials, for Output and Distortion2. There are no details of the circuit and spec2.
The project followed MXR's examination of Rhoads' "chip pan" pedalboard, which Guitar World reported was "intricately examined, filmed, recorded and documented at Musonia" for the first time in over 40 years1. An MXR Distortion+ sat at the heart of the board's signal chain3. Former Machine Head guitarist Phil Demmel said he was involved in the pedal's creation1.
