Mythos Pedals released the Extra Hot, a dual overdrive and boost pedal built exclusively for Carter Vintage Guitars in Nashville, Tennessee, the maker said1. MusicRadar reported the pedal on August 9, 20242.
The Extra Hot is a two-sided overdrive in one housing2. The left "Dine In" side is the maker's take on the ODR sound, with Cut (tone) and Size (bass) controls1. MusicRadar describes it as an ODR-1 style overdrive and says the circuit was modified from the out-of-production Erlking overdrive2. The maker says it had used the circuit before in the Erlking but wanted to reduce the high end and make it more approachable1.
The "Take Out" side is an updated version of the drive from the Air Lane Drive and 210 Double Drive pedals, with Flavor adjusting gain and Sauce acting as volume1. The maker calls it a single-transistor, hard-clipped overdrive that can run from a boost to a low gain drive to an almost fuzz-like dirt pedal1. MusicRadar reports the Take Out circuit comes first in the signal chain and feeds the Dine In circuit, and that each side has its own footswitch with jacks on top of the enclosure2.
The maker describes the Extra Hot as the successor to the Hot Chicken pedal it made for Carter Vintage Guitars some years earlier, with changes1. MusicRadar reports that Seymour Duncan has since launched a Hot Chicken pickup set, and that Mythos founder Zach Broyles revised the circuit in the interim2.
"The updated Extra Hot has two different circuits than the OG unit."
