Olinthus releases Earwig fuzz, billed as world's smallest effects pedal

October 30, 2025 · 3 sources

Olinthus has released the Olinthus Earwig, a fuzz pedal that the maker promotes as the world's smallest effects pedal. Pedal of the Day reported the release on October 30, 2025.

The Earwig is inspired by the 1969 Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Pi circuit12. It uses four cascading gain stages with silicon transistors and symmetrical clipping diodes12. Its tone stack blends treble-boosted and bass-boosted frequencies12. Pedal of the Day describes three small knobs covering tones from "crunchy breakup to all-out fuzz madness"2.

RockBoard's PedalPedia lists the circuit as analog, running on 9V DC center-negative power at 50mA1. Its width, depth, height and weight fields show placeholder values of 000.00, so no enclosure dimensions are published there1. Delicious Audio describes the enclosure as smaller than a guitar pick and says the pedal can be patched into a Eurorack system or mounted on a densely packed board3. It also reports packaging with a compostable insert and a reusable metal case3.

No price or ship date appears in the coverage. Pedal of the Day directs readers to the Olinthus website for information and ordering2.

"It is promoted as the world's smallest effects pedal, stuffing massive sound into a tiny footprint."

Pedal of the Day's writer said the Earwig "sound[s] incredible" and called the earlier Cicada Overdrive "far and away the smallest effects unit I had ever seen"2. Delicious Audio called the Earwig "might be the most improbable fuzz pedal ever made"3.
