Origin Effects announced the Magma57, an all-in-one amp sim, vibrato and overdrive pedal that seeks to emulate the sound of Magnatone amps of the late '50s, Guitar World reported on November 17, 20201. The pedal is available now for $4591.
The overdrive section is based on an analog circuit inspired by the Magnatone 213 "Troubadour," with three knobs (Drive, Tone and Output) controlling it2. The vibrato has two larger knobs for Speed and Intensity and its own footswitch2. A three-way Blend switch sets the phase relationship between wet and dry signal: the center position gives pure vibrato, 0° combines the signals in phase for a Uni-Vibe-style chorus, and 180° runs them out of phase23. A second three-way switch next to the Speed knob multiplies the rate (x1, x2, x3)23. A two-way toggle and a small knob control a Post Drive EQ, with EQ1 voiced for black-panel-style amps, EQ2 for mid-forward amps and a flat setting for full-range power amps23. A TRS jack handles tap tempo and remote on/off3. The pedal uses buffered bypass with silent switching and runs on a standard nine-volt center-negative adapter23.
Guitar World reported that the circuit is based on the company's RevivalDRIVE pedal and that the Magma57 has tour-grade, all-metal construction, separate footswitches for the amp and vibrato effects, and an external footswitch input for tap tempo, remote vibrato switching and compatibility with pedal switching systems1. Origin Effects says the pedal is designed and built in England2.
The pedal sits in the site's vibrato pedals category.
