Free The Tone changes FT-2Y power supply spec for September 2024 shipments

September 1, 2024 · 2 sources

Free The Tone states on its product page for the FLIGHT TIME / FT-2Y digital delay that the power supply specification was changed for units shipped from September 2024¹². The notice appears in the specifications table under the power supply entry, which still lists a DC9V AC adapter¹².

The maker's instruction to owners is to use an AC adapter that corresponds to the voltage shown on the DC IN terminal of the unit in hand¹². The page does not state what the new voltage is, and it does not say whether the change affects current draw, which it lists as approximately 400mA¹². The terminal is listed as a DC9-12V input jack for AC adapter connection¹². The separately sold adapters named on the page are the FA-0905D-JA and FA-W0905D-JA¹.

The FT-2Y is a digital delay that the maker describes as the successor to the FT-1Y, which was discontinued in 2016¹². It is built around a 32-bit DSP and includes a real-time BPM analyzer, developed jointly with JD Sound, that adjusts tapped tempo within a range of plus or minus 20 percent; the maker notes it will not adjust beyond that range and may fail to recognize BPM in some material¹². Other features listed include delay time offset, high-pass and low-pass filters, modulation, sound hold, a REC & REPEAT function with 20 seconds of recording for one phrase only, trail, delay phase, subdivision, a rear-panel DRY on/off switch, up to +3dB of boost, and MIDI OUT, which the maker says is new on the FT-2Y¹².

The page lists a Japanese price of 63,800 yen including tax¹². No US price or US availability date is given¹².
