Red Witch Pedals has released the Synthotron III, an expanded version of its analog guitar synth pedal, MusicRadar reported on 7 November 2023. The pedal is described as a 100 per cent analog guitar synth with envelope filter and BBD chorus sections1.
The unit is divided into three sections, Synth, Filter and Chorus, each with its own footswitch. The Synth section has four monophonic guitar synth voices, each with a color-coded strip, and a toggle switch for selecting the pitch each voice generates, with intervals, octave up and down and unison pitches available. Decay and a Flux control, which sets how the synth responds to playing, are also provided. The Filter section has mode toggles and Velocity and Freq dials controlling the speed and frequency range of the filter. The Chorus section uses an MN3007 bucket brigade chip, which Red Witch says allows old-school CE-1 warmth or a brighter voicing, with Velocity, Depth and Mix controls1.
An expression pedal input can switch between Sample and Hold, Envelope Filter and Manual Sweep modes in the filter section. There are CV and external trigger inputs, and an external dry output for sending a processed signal to one amp and the dry guitar signal to another1.
Owner and designer Ben Fulton said the pedal expands on earlier editions:
"Synthotron III offers all the things people loved about it's predecessors, but a vastly improved and expanded design"
The Synthotron II, announced in 2019, was listed at $199.99 and shipped with dual analog synth oscillators, an envelope filter and a sample hold section2.
