Red Witch unveils Magesteria handmade delay pedal

July 30, 2024 · 2 sources

Red Witch Pedals has unveiled the Magesteria, a handmade delay pedal built by Ben Fulton and inspired by the Maestro Echoplex EP3, the Roland Space Echo and the Watkins Copicat1. MusicRadar reported the pedal on July 30, 2024, and priced it at $349, available now1.

The pedal is a digital take on tape echo behavior. Red Witch says it offers "the same exquisite high frequency roll off on the repeats and warm tape like saturation as those iconic mechanical boxes of yesteryear"2. Delay time runs from 55 m/sec to 1100 m/sec2, which MusicRadar described as running from a Scotty Moore slapback to an ethereal, spaced-out repeat1. The repeat control can be pushed into self-oscillation2. A Wow/Flutter dial sets the amount of pitch shift on the repeats, and an internal slide switch selects between Echoplex mode, described as asymmetrical and slower, and Copicat mode, described as faster and more shimmery at shorter delay times2. Changing the delay time produces a warble as the repeats catch up2. An internal trimpot sets gain to match pickups2.

MusicRadar reported four knobs arranged around the top of the enclosure, with only the footswitch on the front1. Red Witch says each unit is hand built, numbered and signed by Fulton using full sized through-hole components, with hand-wired Neutrik jack sockets and a true bypass footswitch mounted independently of the main PCB2.

"I decided to create a pedal that encapsulates the beauty of all three."

Red Witch says it is building 89 pedals and that there will be no more once they sell out2. MusicRadar also reported the run of 891. The two sources give different prices: MusicRadar lists $3491, while the Red Witch product page lists 599 USD and shows the pedal as sold out2. The Magesteria is a delay pedal.
