Rose Morris and ThorpyFX revived the Shaftesbury Duo Fuzz, the companies announced on February 14, 2025, offering it in a Compact Edition and a Heritage Edition1. Rose Morris commissioned ThorpyFX to recreate the pedal, working from an original Shaftesbury Duo Fuzz in Rose Morris's permanent collection1.
The original Duo Fuzz was distributed by Rose Morris and is also known under the Univox name; the maker says it combines two fuzz voicings and was used by guitarists from Genesis and The Who23. The reissues are handmade in the UK23. The Heritage Edition is a period-correct reproduction with the same circuit board and sizing as the original, built in a folded steel enclosure with NOS germanium diodes1. The Compact Edition uses an aluminum enclosure and a pair of near-identical Schottky diodes1. Both are described as following the lower-output silicon Super-Fuzz sound of the originals1.
Controls are Balance, which sets output volume; Expander, which adds gain and saturation; and a Tone switch that shifts the sound between bright and cutting and wooly and warm23. The Tone control is a slider on the Heritage Edition and a footswitch on the Compact Edition, which the maker calls "a feature never before seen on a Duo FUZZ"23. Both run on standard 9-volt power at 20mA, center negative23.
