Thorpy FX launches ER-2 Univibe pedal

January 8, 2024 · 1 sources

Thorpy FX has introduced the ER-2 Univibe, a fully analog pedal the British company describes as its take on the Uni-Vibe circuit, Delicious Audio reported on January 8, 20241.

The ER-2 keeps what the report calls the original heart of the circuit, a lamp-powered LFO system, and adds an Offset knob that "subtly changes the way the lamp inside ramps up, delivering sharper or softer rise and fall of the LFO curve"1. The other three knobs are Intensity, Speed and Volume; the report notes that Speed was adjustable only via an expression pedal on the original1. Two footswitches handle on/off and VIB/CHO, the latter switching between the pedal's Vibe and Chorus voices, a feature the report says the vintage unit had via a manual switch1.

The enclosure is laser cut anodized aluminum over a blue/black sparkle powder coat base, with recessed knobs, a sloped front and top mounted jacks1. Thorpy FX gives the dimensions as 100mm wide, 125mm long and 53mm high, with 150mA current draw from a standard 9-volt DC input, center negative1. The company says the pedal takes its name from NASA's high altitude earth observing plane, itself derived from the USAF U-2 reconnaissance aircraft1.

"Our version of the classic Univibe we believe is improved in scope, quality and fun-to-use factor."
