Godlyke, Inc. announced the release of the TWA Krytical Mass reactive octave fuzz on September 6, 20231. The pedal is based on the vintage Maestro Bass Brassmaster1. Delicious Audio reported that the pedal was unveiled at the NAMM 2023 show and was shipping as of its September 26, 2023 update2.
The maker says the pedal produces "fat, formidable fuzz with a pronounced octave up as well as a more subtle octave down," and that it is responsive to playing dynamics, with muted notes cutting the fuzz "with almost gate-like precision"1. Godlyke says the pedal captures the character of the original Brassmaster through a combination of EQ and voltage controls1.
Controls, as listed by Godlyke1:
| Control | Function |
|---|---|
| Sensitivity, Fuzz Level | Adjust fuzz intensity and output level |
| Dry | Adjusts dry signal output level |
| HP, LP1, LP2, MID switches | EQ filters for the fuzz tone |
| Edge | Adjusts overall brightness |
| Bias | Adjusts transistor voltage to fine-tune the fuzz |
| Polarity switch | Adjusts internal transformer winding from positive to negative |
The "Critical Mass Reaction" LED array indicates effect status and can be set to cycle or stay steady-on1. The pedal runs on 9 VDC external power and uses mechanical true bypass switching1. It carries a 3-year warranty and is made in USA1.
Delicious Audio describes the Edge and Bias knobs as setting "respectively the low frequency and the voltage level to starve the transistor for gated fuzz tones," and lists four toggle switches including one high pass filter, two low pass filters and a 3-way mids knob2. It also reports that fuzz sensitivity can be controlled with an external expression pedal2. The two accounts differ on the Edge control: Godlyke describes it as adjusting overall brightness, while Delicious Audio describes it as setting low frequency12.
"Based on the vintage Maestro Bass Brassmaster, Krytical Mass® is able to capture the aggressive yet warm & organic edge of the original Brassmaster"
