Universal Audio adds USB MIDI control to 14 UAFX pedals with 2.0 firmware

Universal Audio has updated all 14 of its dual-footswitch UAFX pedals with MIDI capabilities through the UAFX 2.0 firmware, as reported by Morningstar on November 12, 2025. The update lets a MIDI foot controller recall presets and adjust effect parameters on the pedals1.
UAFX pedals receive MIDI through their USB device ports, so a USB host port is needed to communicate with them. Morningstar's PRO controllers have USB host ports for direct connection, and a USB hub can be added to the MC8 PRO's host port to control multiple UAFX pedals1. The update covers models including the Lion '68, Dream '65, Del-Verb, Ruby and Starlight1.
The pedals fall into two groups. Only pedals with preset footswitches can store presets and recall them with Program Change messages; pedals without preset capability accept only Control Change messages to control effect parameters1. Beyond presets, users can control nearly every effect parameter, including MIDI Clock for time-based effects. Controllable parameters and their CC numbers are listed in the UAFX Control app and the pedal manuals1. Morningstar has also added all MIDI-controllable parameters and functions to its MIDI Dictionary for UAFX pedals1.
"The UAFX 2.0 update is a game-changer, ensuring that musicians can fully harness the potential of their pedals."
Universal Audio has published its own guide to UAFX 2.0 USB MIDI. Morningstar notes that the UAFX Control app should be up to date alongside the pedal firmware1.
