The AllPedal Alcmene is a mini overdrive pedal built around the circuit ideas of the KLON Centaur, one of the most copied overdrive designs in the history of the effect. AllPedal describes it as a "Mini Klon-Style Overdrive with NOS Germanium Bite," built with the same kind of germanium clipping diodes as the original Centaur1.

According to AllPedal, the pedal covers a wide range of drive sounds, from a gentle, transparent overdrive up to what the maker calls a full-fledged germanium saturation suited to a more rock-oriented sound1. Pedal of the Day reviewed it in August 2023 and called it "a mini [overdrive pedal], fully loaded with authentic Klon style features, such as Germanium clipping diodes, Gold plate[d] circuit board, Active Treble Control, Charge Pump, Buffered Bypass and more"2.

What it is and where it came from

The Alcmene belongs to the large family of pedals inspired by the Klon Centaur, the hand-built overdrive designed by Bill Finnegan that has become, in Delicious Audio's words, "not only the most expensive pedal out there but also the most cloned"4. Gearnews notes that the many Klon-inspired pedals on the market "were all variations on Bill's original Klon Siberia design"5. Pedal of the Day put the Alcmene in that lineage directly, writing that it "has one of the most popular and mythical circuits ever created down in its belly"2.

AllPedal's own take on the design keeps the features players associate with the original: germanium clipping diodes, a gold plated circuit board, an active treble control, a charge pump and buffered bypass2. The pedal is hand-built in the USA, and AllPedal says it "was painstakingly created in the USA"1. It ships with a 3 year warranty, with an option to upgrade to a lifetime warranty1.

Controls and what they do

The Alcmene follows the classic Klon three-knob layout3. AllPedal's product page describes how the main controls behave:

ControlWhat it does
GainTurn it up for what AllPedal calls "True Germanium Distortion"1
TrebleAn active control that boosts or cuts top-end frequencies1

The active treble control is a point of difference from a simple passive tone knob: AllPedal says it lets you "precisely sculpt your top-end frequencies and boost or decrease them as needed"1.

The germanium diodes and the charge pump

The clipping stage uses NOS 1N34A germanium diodes, the same diode type as the original Centaur. AllPedal states that "we used only NOS 1N34A Germanium Clipping diodes in the circuit"1, and Pedal of the Day confirmed the same in its review2. Germanium diodes clip at a lower threshold than silicon, which is part of why Klon-style circuits are associated with a softer, more gradual onset of drive.

The pedal also includes an integrated charge pump, which raises the internal voltage rails above the 9V coming in from the power supply. AllPedal says this "provides you with more headroom and dynamic response"1, and Delicious Audio's June 2026 buying guide described the same benefit, crediting the pedal with "higher headroom and dynamic response thanks to an integrated charge pump delivering higher internal voltage rai[ls]"3.

Power and practical details

The Alcmene has no internal battery and requires a 9V DC center pin negative, fully regulated power supply. The power adapter is not included with the pedal1.

At 20mA of current draw, the pedal is a light load for a pedalboard power supply1. Other measured details from AllPedal include an input impedance of 280K, described by the maker as a measured rather than theoretical figure, and a weight of 454 grams1. The enclosure has a metallic finish with embossed artwork and anodized knobs1.

What reviewers said

Pedal of the Day's 2023 review was positive on value, concluding that the Alcmene "is right up your alley for tone, pedalboard real estate and price tag"2. Delicious Audio's 2026 roundup of Klon-style pedals listed it at $149, noting the classic three-knob layout and germanium clipping diodes alongside the charge pump3.

"Then the All-Pedal [Alcmene Overdrive] is right up your alley for tone, pedalboard real estate and price tag."

Questions

Is the AllPedal Alcmene a Klon clone?

It is a Klon-style overdrive rather than a straight copy. AllPedal built the circuit around the same ideas as the Klon Centaur, including NOS 1N34A germanium clipping diodes, the classic three-knob layout, an active treble control and a charge pump, but packaged in a mini enclosure. Reviewers group it with the many pedals that are variations on Bill Finnegan's original design.

Does the AllPedal Alcmene run on a battery?

No. The pedal has no internal battery and needs an external 9V DC power supply with a center pin negative connector, fully regulated, which is not included with the pedal. It draws 20mA, so it is easy on a typical pedalboard power supply.

What diodes does the AllPedal Alcmene use?

It uses NOS 1N34A germanium clipping diodes, the same diode type as the original Klon Centaur. AllPedal says it used only NOS (new old stock) 1N34A germanium diodes in the circuit, and Pedal of the Day confirmed this in its 2023 review.

Where is the AllPedal Alcmene made?

It is hand-built in the USA. AllPedal describes the Alcmene as painstakingly created in the USA, and it comes with a 3 year warranty that can be upgraded to a lifetime warranty.

Is the AllPedal Alcmene still available?

Its listed price was $149 in a June 2026 buying guide, and the maker's page shows a regular price of £149.00.
