The Animals Pedal Dawn Ocean Meditation Booster is a clean boost stompbox designed for the Japanese brand by Wren and Cuff, a pedal maker known for its fuzz pedals. Animals Pedal describes it as "a clean booster with a distinctive character, developed by Wren and Cuff"1. MusicPlayers.com, covering the launch, called it "a classic one-knob clean boost pedal"2.
What it does
A clean boost raises the level of the signal without adding distortion of its own, and this pedal is built around that single job. The BOOST knob sets how much level is added: Animals Pedal describes the minimum setting as boosting only a little, with the pedal changing to a stronger boost once the knob passes the 2 o'clock position, and a maximum of +15dB3. That +15dB ceiling is also the figure given in the launch coverage from MusicPlayers.com and Premier Guitar, and by Delicious Audio245.
Wren and Cuff is best known as a maker of fuzz pedals whose vintage reproductions are highly regarded, and Animals Pedal presents the booster as coming from that design background3. Pedal of the Day's review described it as "a clean booster that reproduces numerous vintage tones and powerful, classic style boosting to your signal," and found that it "gives your tone a thickness, without breaking the rough balance of high, mid, and low" frequencies, with the character of the boost mattering more than the sheer amount of level6.
The Wren and Cuff collaboration
The Dawn Ocean Meditation Booster is the third collaboration between Animals Pedal and Wren and Cuff, following the Tioga Road Cycling Distortion and the Sunday Afternoon is Infinity Bender4. Premier Guitar's launch coverage named Matthew Holl of Wren and Cuff as the designer4. The pedal was announced in March 2021 and covered by Delicious Audio in June 2021 as its release25.
Pedal of the Day's verdict on the pedal as a whole was that "this is another simple but righteous example" of the Animals Pedal and Wren and Cuff collaborations, calling it a real tone-enhancement unit for any rig overall6.
Controls and power
The pedal has one control and one footswitch, which is the whole interface623.
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| BOOST | Sets the boost level: a slight boost at minimum, a stronger boost past 2 o'clock, maximum +15dB3 |
| Footswitch | True bypass switching3 |
Power comes from a 9V battery or a standard center negative 9V DC adapter, with a listed current draw of 1mA3. That draw is light enough that it sits comfortably on any pedalboard supply. Animals Pedal publishes a manual for the pedal on its site7.
The maker's product page lists the price in pounds sterling, £70.92, shown alongside £63.823.
For where a booster sits among the options, see the site's page on Boost Pedals; players comparing it with the drive side of the same collaboration may also want the pages on Overdrive Pedals and Fuzz Pedals.

Questions
How much boost does the Dawn Ocean Meditation Booster give?
The single BOOST knob goes up to a maximum of +15dB. Animals Pedal describes the control as giving only a slight boost at its minimum setting, changing to a stronger boost once the knob is turned past the 2 o'clock position, and reaching the full +15dB at maximum.
Who designed the Dawn Ocean Meditation Booster?
The circuit was designed by Wren and Cuff, the California pedal maker known for its fuzz pedals, with Premier Guitar naming Matthew Holl of Wren and Cuff as the designer. It is the third collaboration between Animals Pedal and Wren and Cuff, following the Tioga Road Cycling Distortion and Sunday Afternoon is Infinity Bender.
Does the Dawn Ocean Meditation Booster run on a battery?
Yes. Animals Pedal lists the pedal as running on a 9V battery or on a standard center negative 9V DC adapter. Its current draw is listed at 1mA, which is very light by pedal standards.
Is the Dawn Ocean Meditation Booster true bypass?
Yes. Animals Pedal states that the Dawn Ocean Meditation Booster uses a true bypass footswitch, so the signal passes through unaltered when the pedal is off.
Is the Dawn Ocean Meditation Booster center negative?
Yes. The maker lists it as running on a standard center negative 9V DC adapter, the same polarity used by most pedalboard power supplies, or on a 9V battery.
