The Sunday Afternoon Is Infinity Bender is a fuzz pedal from Animals Pedal, built to recreate the Tone Bender sound of the mid-1960s. Animals Pedal describes it as reviving the fuzz sound of that era, one that influenced a great number of fuzz pedals, and says it is heavier than a Fuzz Face, with a rising edge as the fuzz is increased1. The circuit is a reproduction of the Tone Bender sound designed by Wren and Cuff, the maker Animals Pedal credits as highly regarded worldwide for reproducing vintage tones1.

The pedal was designed with Matthew Holl of Wren and Cuff, and Delicious Audio reports that Holl's goal was to get as close to germanium tones as possible using silicon transistors2. That puts it in the same family as other modern silicon Tone Bender recreations such as the Jeds Peds Silicon Tone Bender, while the original units it chases, like the JMI Tone Bender Professional Mk II, were germanium designs.

A Tone Bender-style fuzz heavier than a Fuzz Face

The Tone Bender family is one of the oldest fuzz circuits. Tru-Fi calls the ToneBender "a classic fuzz pedal"3, and in a buying guide JHS Pedals describes the Sola Sound Tone Bender as "a much more aggressive fuzz than the Fuzz Face"4. Delicious Audio's fuzz roundup characterizes the Tone Bender as "Hairy, spitting, and aggressive," noting that unlike scooped Muff-style pedals it can make itself heard in a dense mix5.

That is the territory the Sunday Afternoon Is Infinity Bender works in. Animals Pedal positions it as heavier than a Fuzz Face, with an edge that rises as you turn the fuzz up1. For a player choosing between fuzz types, the practical difference is this: where a Fuzz Face-style circuit tends toward a rounder, warmer breakup, a Tone Bender-style circuit like this one leans toward the aggressive, cutting character the press describes above45.

The controls: Volume, Fuzz and Smooth

The pedal has three knobs. Animals Pedal's own descriptions of each control1:

ControlWhat it does
VOLUMEAdjusts the overall volume
FUZZSets the amount of fuzz
SMOOTHAdjustes the tonal balance, warmth and edge

The Smooth knob is the tone-shaping control. Delicious Audio describes it as "a SMOOTH knob that adjusts the tone balance, warmth and edginess," effectively acting as the pedal's tone control2. Animals Pedal's product index adds that it adjusts the fuzz's hairiness, smoothness and tonal balance6. With only three knobs, the pedal keeps the simple control layout of the vintage units it recreates.

Design and versions

The Sunday Afternoon Is Infinity Bender has been through a redesign. Animals Pedal says the new version makes battery replacement easier than before, moves the footswitch closer to the front for better playability, and widens the tonal range, fine-tuned to work with more amps and guitars1. The redesigned version went on sale on 21 June 20217.

The original version predates that. Delicious Audio announced the pedal on 30 May 2021 as a new fuzz designed with Matthew Holl of Wren and Cuff, voiced after a germanium Tone Bender using silicon transistors2, and Pedal of the Day reviewed it on 28 October 2020, describing a three-knob fuzz made with Holl that recreates the mid-60s germanium Tone Bender sound using a silicon chip8.

If you find one secondhand or at a retailer, check which version it is. The redesigned model (on sale from 21 June 2021) has the footswitch closer to the front, easier battery access and a widened tonal range compared with the earlier release17.

What reviewers said

Pedal of the Day reviewed the pedal in October 2020 and was positive about its range8:

"the sounds it produces are vast and really well done"

Power, connections and specs

The pedal runs on a 9V battery or a standard center negative 9V DC adapter1. At 1mA of current draw it is a light load on any pedalboard power supply1. Animals Pedal lists the input impedance as 4.7K to 100K and the output impedance as under 3.3K1; the low input impedance is typical of vintage-style fuzz circuits and is part of how they interact with the guitar's volume control.

The Animals Pedal store lists the regular price as £66.06, with £59.45 shown alongside it as the sale price (October 2026). The two figures appear together on the maker's product page1.

Questions

What does the Smooth knob do on the Sunday Afternoon Is Infinity Bender?

Smooth works as the pedal's tone control. Animals Pedal says it adjusts the balance, warmth and edge of the sound, and Delicious Audio describes it as setting the tone balance, warmth and edginess. Turn it one way for a smoother, rounder fuzz and the other for more bite.

Is the Sunday Afternoon Is Infinity Bender true bypass?

Yes. Animals Pedal states the pedal uses a true bypass footswitch, so when it is off the guitar signal passes through without the circuit coloring it.

What is the power polarity of the Animals Pedal Infinity Bender?

It runs on a 9V battery or a standard 9V DC adapter with a center negative plug, the same polarity as most modern pedals, so it works with typical pedalboard power supplies. Current draw is 1mA.

Does the Infinity Bender use germanium or silicon transistors?

It uses silicon transistors. Delicious Audio reports that designer Matthew Holl of Wren and Cuff aimed to get as close as possible to germanium Tone Bender tones using silicon, which avoids the temperature sensitivity and gain drift of germanium parts.

Who designed the Sunday Afternoon Is Infinity Bender?

The pedal was designed with Wren and Cuff, the fuzz maker known for its vintage tone reproductions. Delicious Audio names Matthew Holl of Wren and Cuff as the designer behind the circuit.

How much does the Infinity Bender weigh?

Animals Pedal lists the weight as 378g, roughly the same as a typical compact three-knob fuzz, so it fits on a pedalboard without adding much load.
