The Beetronics Swarm Fuzz Harmonizer Pink Lemonade Limited Edition is a limited-run version of Beetronics' Swarm Fuzz Harmonizer, an analog fuzz harmonizer pedal that Beetronics says "sounds like a thousand killer bees coming to get you!"1 It is hand made in California, and like the rest of the Swarm line it is a fuzz pedal with a pitch-shifting twist: instead of just clipping your signal, it generates harmony intervals above and below what you play1.

The Pink Lemonade edition is sold out at Beetronics, so it now lives on the secondhand market1.

What it does: fuzz turned into swarming harmonies

The Swarm is not a conventional fuzz. Beetronics describes the circuit this way: "It basically turns your input signal into a square wave, than multiplies and divides the frequency of that wave, giving you nine possible harmonies in two different octaves."1 That square-wave conversion is where the fuzz character comes from, and the frequency multiplication and division is what generates the harmony notes.

What makes the Swarm unusual is the modulation applied to those harmonies. Beetronics says it can go "from a nearly perfect tracking harmony, to a wild and uncontrollable swarm"1. At one end of the range the harmony intervals follow your playing cleanly, like a pitch shifter locked to your notes. At the other end the harmonies drift and chase, which is the effect the pedal is named after.

Gearnews lists the Swarm simply as a "Fuzz Harmonizer" in its coverage of Beetronics' lineup, alongside the company's other fuzz and octave pedals2.

The controls

The Pink Lemonade edition carries the same control set as the standard Swarm Fuzz Harmonizer, with bee-themed knob names13.

ControlWhat it does
WORKERSets the level of your input signal, "now fuzzy and buzzy"1
SPECIESSelects between 9 different intervals for your harmonies1
STINGSets how fast or slow the harmonies follow your playing1
FLIGHTSets the response of the modulation: counterclockwise, the harmonies keep oscillating up and down; clockwise, they glide and hold from one note to the next1
MASTERSets your output volume1

WORKER and MASTER bookend the signal, setting how hard you drive the square-wave conversion and how loud the result is. SPECIES picks the interval, and STING and FLIGHT together shape how the harmony behaves: STING sets the tracking speed, and FLIGHT chooses whether the harmonies oscillate or glide1.

Power

The Swarm runs on a 9V DC center negative power supply with a 7mA current draw1. That draw is low enough that it will run comfortably from almost any pedalboard power supply or even a daisy chain with headroom to spare.

No power supply is included with the Pink Lemonade edition, or with any of the other Swarm limited editions Beetronics lists1453. You will need your own 9V DC center negative supply.

The Pink Lemonade and other Swarm limited editions

Beetronics has released the Swarm in a series of limited editions, each with the same analog fuzz harmonizer circuit, true bypass switching and 9V DC center negative power, differing in finish1453. The editions the maker's pages name include:

  • Pink Lemonade, the subject of this page, sold out1
  • Cream, also sold out3
  • Majin Bee5
  • The standard Swarm Fuzz Harmonizer Limited Edition, also shown as sold out4

Related Beetronics Swarm pages on this site include the Swarm Analog Fuzz Harmonizer, the Swarm Limited Edition Bambee, the Swarm Fuzz Harmonizer The Blackbee Edition, and the Swarm Limited Edition Majin Bee.

Beetronics backs the pedal with what it calls a 30-Day Hive Happiness Guarantee, with shipping not included1. Returns in new condition in the original packaging get a full refund; a product showing wear or missing accessories may carry a modest restocking fee or be issued as store credit, with returns due within 7 days of an RMA and refunds processed within 5 business days1.

Questions

Is the Swarm Pink Lemonade true bypass?

Yes. Beetronics lists the Swarm Fuzz Harmonizer Pink Lemonade Limited Edition as true bypass, so with the pedal off your dry signal passes through without active buffering. The same true bypass spec appears on the other Swarm limited editions, including the Cream and Majin Bee versions.

Does the Beetronics Swarm include a power supply?

No. Beetronics states on the product page that the Swarm does not include a power supply. You need your own 9V DC center negative supply, and the pedal draws only 7mA, so it is easy to run from a standard pedalboard power brick or an isolated output.

What does the Sting knob do on the Swarm?

STING sets how fast or slow the harmonies follow your playing. It controls the modulation applied to the harmonies, so you can push the pedal from a nearly perfect tracking harmony, where the intervals snap to your notes, to a wild and uncontrollable swarm where the harmonies chase your playing.

How many harmony intervals does the Swarm have?

Nine. The SPECIES control selects between 9 different intervals for the harmonies. Beetronics explains that the pedal turns your input signal into a square wave, then multiplies and divides the frequency of that wave, giving you nine possible harmonies in two different octaves.

Is the Pink Lemonade Swarm still available?

No. Beetronics' product page lists the Pink Lemonade Limited Edition as sold out. It was a limited edition, and the Cream limited edition is also shown as sold out, so finding one now means looking at the secondhand market or other Swarm editions.
