The BFFX BFmidi 2 6s is a MIDI foot controller and MIDI switcher pedal built by BFFX. It puts six footswitches on the floor, each able to send MIDI commands, so a player can make preset changes, switch effects on and off, or drive other MIDI-controlled functions without taking their hands off the guitar. BFFX positions it for use with pedalboards, multi-FX rigs, MIDI-compatible amplifiers and digital gear1. It sits in the wider family of MIDI pedals and, for players using it as a switcher, relates to switching pedals and multi-effects pedals.

What it does

The core of the unit is its six footswitches. BFFX describes them as the means "to send MIDI commands", which covers the everyday jobs of a floor controller: changing presets on a multi-FX unit, turning individual effects in a loop switcher on and off, or calling up channels on a MIDI-ready amplifier. Because the control happens at the feet, RockBoard's PedalPedia describes the result as "preset changes, effect switching or other MIDI-driven control hands-free from the floor"1.

Connections

The BFmidi 2 6s connects to the gear it controls in two ways1:

  • 5-pin MIDI or TRS: the unit supports input via standard 5-pin MIDI or TRS, the pedalboard-style connection many modern MIDI pedals use1
  • USB-MIDI / USB-HOST: RockBoard's PedalPedia says it "also offers USB-MIDI / USB-HOST compatibility to interface with computers (Windows/Mac) or modern devices"1

The USB-HOST side matters in practice: it lets the controller talk directly to modern MIDI devices and computers running Windows or Mac, not only to older 5-pin MIDI gear1.
