The Caline CP-36 Big Dipper Pitch Shifter is a compact pedal that brings pitch shifting and octave effects to a pedalboard at a low price. Pedal of the Day described it as "a tiny pedal with a bunch of options," and noted that "for a pedal that costs around 50 dollars new, you really do get bang for your buck"1. It sits in the wider family of Octave & Pitch Pedals, which also includes dedicated octave and harmonizer designs.
Controls
The Big Dipper keeps its control layout simple. A toggle switch lets you select from Pitch Up, Pitch Down and Detune modes, and a selector knob gives you a range of shifting modes, increasing as you go from left to right1.
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Toggle switch | Selects from Pitch Up, Pitch Down and Detune modes1 |
| Selector knob | Chooses among a range of shifting modes, increasing as you go from left to right1 |
| Wet and Dry controls | Blend the shifted and unshifted signal1 |
What reviewers said
Pedal of the Day reviewed the Big Dipper in June 2019 and came away positive overall, but flagged one issue with their particular unit: "Aside from the fact that the Wet and Dry controls on our particular pedal are either labeled incorrectly or not wired right," the reviewer still found the pedal delivered value for its price1. That caveat is worth knowing: on the reviewed unit, the Wet and Dry controls appeared to be either mislabeled or wired differently than expected, so the blend controls may not behave the way the panel suggests1.
