The Champion Leccy the Woozy V2 is a lo-fi modulation pedal that, in the maker's words, "covers a lot of ground": chorus, vibrato, spangly sounds, square wave pitch shifting laser, and what Champion Leccy describes as "haunting reverb/ warped tape delay weirdness"1. It can function as a straightforward chorus, a vibrato, or a full lo-fi modulation unit, and it carries a built-in echo section alongside the modulation. Delicious Audio, which covered the original Woozy in July 2022, described it as "a tap tempo modulation pedal with a built-in echo" and added it to its article about the best lo-fi pedals2.

The V2 keeps the same sound as the original but improves things under the hood, including a quieter PCB1. Champion Leccy says of the update: "For the V2 Woozy we squeezed out the last few percent we could from the design"3. Every Champion Leccy pedal is designed, built and tested in a South Philly rowhome1.

What it does to your sound

The Woozy sits in the lo-fi corner of modulation. Rather than a clean, hi-fi chorus, it aims at analog tape artifacts and degraded, wobbly textures; Delicious Audio's lo-fi pedals roundup groups it with pedals chasing that tape-and-vinyl character4. Within that palette it spans several effects: conventional chorus and vibrato at the tame end, square wave pitch shifting at the extreme end, and a reverb/warped tape delay section that Champion Leccy describes as producing "haunting" weirdness1. The echo section also includes a signal fattening "doubler" effect, which the maker says goes "all the way to craziness that is hard to tame but fun as all get out"5.

A comparison table on Champion Leccy's site lists the Woozy V2's functions alongside its siblings the Skitzy, Skitter V2 and Swan Hunter. The Woozy V2's column includes the LFO, a Belton brick reverb, ducking/gating, tremolo on the dry signal, tremolo on the reverb, tape sounds, resonant echo, an FX loop, tap tempo, and one wet signal path6.

The controls: cheer, dregs and LFO

The Woozy's control set is small, and each control does a lot of work.

ControlWhat it does
CheerBlends dry and effected signal; fully clockwise is all wet, anticlockwise blends dry back in7
Dregs switchChanges the instant ambiance; V2 adds an extra position3
LFO (Tide on the original)Sets modulation speed, from slow and elegant to frantic and sci-fi7
LoveVolume7

The cheer knob is the dry/wet blend. On the original Woozy, Delicious Audio explained it plainly: "blends your dry signal with your effected signal. Fully clockwise is all wet and no dry, turn anticlockwise to blend more dry signal into the mix"2. On the V2 it has been redesigned with what the maker calls "a true 100% dry/ wet blend"1, so the knob now reaches fully dry as well as fully wet.

The dregs switch is the character control. Champion Leccy describes the Woozy V2's range as covering "chorus, vibrato, spangly sounds, square wave pitch shifting laser and haunting reverb/ warped tape delay weirdness"1, and the dregs switch is how you push the pedal between those territories.

"I love the instant ambiance change you get from the 'dregs' switch."

Champion Leccy's own description of the pedal's modulation range1

In the V2 the switch gained an extra position over the original, giving one more ambiance setting3.

The LFO is the heart of the pedal. Champion Leccy says it has "tons of usable range, LOTS of waveforms/ramps and small changes to the shape of oscillations yield wildly different results"5. On the original Woozy this was the Tide knob, which Delicious Audio described as making "your modulations slow and elegant or frantic and sci-fi"2. The Woozy uses the same Electric Druid LFO as Champion Leccy's Kilter and Skitter, with the modulation indicator LED placed next to the tap tempo footswitch8. Tap tempo lets you set the modulation speed in time with the music rather than by ear alone.

Power and practicalities

The Woozy V2 takes a standard BOSS style +9V center negative power supply, which is not supplied with the pedal1.

No power supply is included. You will need a 9V DC center negative supply, the same type used by most BOSS compact pedals.

Current draw is 60 mA1, modest enough for most isolated pedalboard supplies. The maker's product page lists dimensions as N/A1.

Where it came from

The original Woozy launched as a lo-fi modulation pedal covering the same territory, with the Love, Tide and Cheer controls described above7. Delicious Audio covered it on 15 July 2022, documenting its controls and effect range, and included it in its roundup of the best lo-fi pedals2. The V2 followed with the same sound but a quieter PCB, the redesigned cheer knob with a true 100% dry/wet blend, and the extra dregs switch position13.

Questions

Where is the Champion Leccy Woozy V2 made?

All Champion Leccy pedals and devices, including the Woozy V2, are designed, built and tested in a South Philly rowhome in Philadelphia. It is a small handbuilt operation rather than a factory product, which is part of why each pedal is finished and assembled individually.

What power does the Woozy V2 need?

It takes a standard BOSS style +9V center negative power supply, which is not supplied with the pedal. That means a typical 9V DC pedalboard supply with a standard barrel plug will run it, and it draws 60 mA.

What does the dregs switch do?

The dregs switch changes the instant ambiance of the pedal, flipping between different lo-fi character settings on the fly. In the V2 the switch gained an extra position over the original Woozy, giving one more ambiance setting to choose from.

How much current does the Woozy V2 draw?

The Woozy V2 draws 60 mA at 9V. That is modest by modern pedal standards, so it will run comfortably on most isolated pedalboard power supplies alongside a handful of other pedals.
