The Cosmodio Glitch Witch is an analog auto-modulated logic fuzz: a fuzz pedal whose CMOS logic gates drive frequency dividers that warp your signal into sub-octaves, bit-crushed glitches, ring mod shrieks and stuttering rhythmic chaos, all synced to your playing1. Released on 3 June 2025, it is Cosmodio Instruments' sequel to the Pet Yeti distortion fuzz and the Gravity Well wavefolder23.

The core fuzz is described by Delicious Audio as "a savage, 100% analog CMOS fuzz capable of everything from gated splatter to vintage Tone Bender growl"1. Pedal of the Day calls the circuit "all-original and unconventional," capable of "massive, modern, fullspectrum gated fuzz"3. What sets it apart from a conventional fuzz is the divider section: when the frequency dividers are active, all rhythmic effects and modulation rates are locked to subsonic divisions of the input notes3.

What it does

The Glitch Witch combines two things in one box: a CMOS fuzz and a set of logic-based frequency dividers. The fuzz side handles the dirt, from gated splatter to Tone Bender style growl1. The divider side takes that signal and mangles it further, producing sub-octaves, bit-crushed glitches, ring mod shrieks and stuttering rhythms1.

The design idea goes back to Leon Theremin's Rhythmicon, an instrument that revealed the hidden link between pitch and rhythm: high notes trigger rapid modulation, low notes slow it down1. In the Glitch Witch, that means the glitch and modulation rates follow your playing rather than running on a free-running oscillator13.

Guitar Pedal X's Stefan Karlsson found the combined output distinctive, if not for everyone2:

"The combined output is far from a conventional Fuzz Sound - and I suppose something of an acquired taste. I quite like it, while I’ve yet to decide how suitable this pedal is for my own playing sensibilities - and how much I would actually use this device."2

The fuzz can also be used independently of the modulation, so the pedal works as a straight fuzz when you want it2.

The controls

The Glitch Witch carries a Bypass footswitch and a Divide footswitch, plus a row of knobs2.

ControlWhat it does
Fuzz LevelOutput level of the fuzz section2
Hi EQ / Lo EQSculpt scoops, mid punches, or razor highs21
GateCrank it for sputtering decay or dial back for sustain1
CleanClean level, for blending clean signal against the fuzz2
Modulation DepthSets modulation intensity21
DivisorTweak division rates1
VoiceCycles through the three divider modes21
Bypass footswitchEngages the pedal2
Divide footswitchFlips between raw fuzz and divider-driven glitchy insanity21

The Voice control is where the divider character lives. It offers three modes2:

  • Ring-Mod: divider-based ring mod sounds21
  • Crude Frequency Modulation: an FM wobble21
  • Pitch Track Instability: the divider tracks the pitch of your notes, with unstable results21

Divisor and Depth work together to set how fast the divisions run and how hard the modulation hits1.

Where it came from

The Glitch Witch was released on 3 June 20253. Cosmodio describes it as capable of everything from gated splatter to vintage Tone Bender growl1, and says it makes a series of cool noises with uniquely textured outputs, where players will need to decide how much mileage they get out of those tones and texture1.

What reviewers said

Guitar Pedal X's take: "It makes a series of cool noises - where you will need to decide how much mileage you get out of those tones and texture[s]"2. Karlsson notes the combined output is far from a conventional fuzz sound and something of an acquired taste, which he quite likes overall2. Pedal of the Day frames the pedal around the chip at its heart: "At the robotic heart of the 100% analog Glitch Witch pedal is a fast, fun, and heavy AF CMOS fuzz"3.

Questions

Can the Glitch Witch fuzz be used without the modulation?

Yes. The fuzz side works on its own, and the Divide footswitch flips between raw fuzz and the divider-driven glitch sounds. You can run it as a straight CMOS fuzz and bring in the frequency division only when you want it.

What are the three Voice modes on the Glitch Witch?

The Voice control cycles through three divider modes: Ring-Mod, Crude Frequency Modulation (an FM wobble), and Pitch Track Instability, where the divider reacts to the pitch of your input notes. Each mode changes how the frequency dividers warp the signal.

Is the Cosmodio Glitch Witch analog or digital?

It is 100% analog. The circuit is built around CMOS logic gates, the same simple chips used for digital logic, but here they are used in an all-original analog fuzz and frequency divider circuit rather than for digital processing.

What is the Rhythmicon and how does it relate to the Glitch Witch?

The Rhythmicon was Leon Theremin's instrument that linked pitch and rhythm, so high notes triggered rapid rhythmic pulses and low notes slower ones. The Glitch Witch works on the same principle: its modulation rates lock to subsonic divisions of the notes you play.

How much does the Glitch Witch cost?

In the USA it is $279 direct from Cosmodio Instruments, as of June 2025. In the UK it is £289 at Joe's Pedals, and in Germany it is €329 at Effekt Boutique.
