The Dirty Boy Jr Fuzz is a vintage-style fuzz pedal built by Warm Audio in partnership with Dirty Boy, and a faithful recreation of the Dirty Boy Afro Fuzz circuit in a smaller, more pedalboard-friendly format1. Warm Audio describes it as a "Vintage-Style Fuzz Pedal With Added 6-Position Frequency Control," promising everything from "thick, low-end-heavy saturation to sharp, more cutting textures"1. It launched in July 2026 as one of three Jr pedals released together, alongside a Booster and an Overdrive, all built by Warm Audio2.
What it does
The Jr Fuzz keeps the Afro Fuzz's basic two-knob layout and adds the signature six-position Frequency selector, which Warm Audio says reshapes the circuit's overall voice1. Guitar Pedal X describes the control set as "Fuzz, Level, Freq (Thick / Heavy > Sharp / Cutting)"3.
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Fuzz | Sets the amount of fuzz, from lightly ragged breakup to full fuzzy saturation2 |
| Level | Sets the output level13 |
| Freq | Six-position selector that shifts the pedal's voice from Thick/Heavy to Sharp/Cutting13 |
MusicRadar's write-up, from Jonathan Horsley with Danny Gomez, put it plainly: "It sounds a little like a good vintage Fuzz Face that cleans up nicely"4.
What reviewers said
Guitar World's reviewer Charlie Wilkins found the Frequency selector is what separates the Jr from a basic two-knob fuzz, saying it "adds real range, and it cleans up beautifully with guitar volume"2. On dynamics, he noted it "responded to pick attack in a way that rewards playing dynamics rather than just compressing everything into saturation"2. His verdict on the pedal's voice: "A genuinely distinctive vintage fuzz voice that cleans up beautifully"2.
Compared with a rival vintage-style fuzz, Wilkins found the Jr Fuzz "noticeably" better at cleaning up than the EarthQuaker Devices Erupter, "which loses a little more sparkle as you back off the volume"2.
GuitarPlayer's review staff summed up the pedal as delivering "a wide range of vintage-inspired filth"5. On value, Wilkins concluded: "Judged on its own merits, the Jr. Fuzz punches well above its $169 price tag"2.
The Jr series and the original
The Jr Fuzz is the smaller version of Dirty Boy's Afro Fuzz. Guitar Pedal X notes the three Jr pedals were priced at $170 / £170 each3. The series covers three classic Dirty Boy circuits:
- Jr Booster, based on the Dirty Boy Ball Buster23
- Jr Overdrive, based on the Dirty Boy Preamp23
- Jr Fuzz, based on the Dirty Boy Afro Fuzz23
The two press prices differ slightly: Guitar World cites $1692 and Guitar Pedal X lists $170 / £1703. Both were published at the July 2026 launch.
