The Blood Moon edition is a finish variant of the regular Moon Canyon, with a sparkle dark blue coating, a red Blood Moon moon-cycle light on a gold leaf background, and four blue LED footswitches1. It is sold out: only 350 Moon Canyons were made in total, by hand, between 2018 and 2025, and the Blood Moon series accounted for 50 of them1.
Overdrive, reverb and delay in one box with an FX loop
The signal chain inside the Moon Canyon runs in a fixed order: overdrive first, then the FX loop, then reverb, then delay1. The FX loop is switchable by footswitch, positioned after the overdrive and before the reverb and delay, so you can insert other pedals into the middle of the chain or bypass the loop entirely12. When the loop is engaged, its switch ring lights up red1.
Each section does its own job:
- Overdrive: Dr. No Effects describes it as very transparent and extremely suitable for dynamic playing, voiced to work with the reverb and delay that follow it3.
- Reverb: A single-knob digital reverb based on a high quality Belton reverb brick, voiced as a "Long" reverb. The maker says that with a nice amplifier or multiple amps it can sound like playing in a cathedral1. Guitar.com likewise noted it "is capable of cathedral-filling atmospheres"4.
- Delay: A digital delay that the maker says has analog sounding characteristics, with a repeats control that can be pushed into self-oscillation1.
At the end of the chain there are two mono outputs. Dr. No Effects suggests using two amps, "like Noveller is using," or running one output to an amp and the other into a new chain of effects and then to a second amp1. Guitar Pedal X's rundown of the pedal listed the same feature set: transparent drive, loop, reverb, digital delay, and Out II for two amps5.
The controls
The three sections are laid out with their own knobs and footswitches. Guitar Pedal X summarized the control set as Drive, Volume and Tone knobs plus a Tone switch (bass boost) and drive footswitch for the drive section, a Level knob and reverb footswitch for the reverb, and the delay controls5.
| Section | Control | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Overdrive | Volume, Tone, Drive | Sets the level, brightness and amount of drive1 |
| Overdrive | Mini toggle switch | Adds more low end1 |
| FX loop | Footswitch | Bypasses the loop when switched off; ring lights red when engaged1 |
| Reverb | Single knob | Adds more or less reverb1 |
| Delay | Mix | Mixes in the amount of delay present in your signal1 |
| Delay | Time | Sets the tempo of the delay1 |
| Delay | Repeats | Sets the feedback; at max it oscillates1 |
The delay's oscillation behavior is a feature the maker points to directly: turning Repeats to max, or turning the knob while a signal runs through, creates what Dr. No Effects calls "a killer oscillation," and with Time turned while a signal runs through above 2 o'clock, "oscillation heaven"1. Guitar.com confirmed the delay "is capable of self-oscillation"4.
Power: 9V only, 400mA minimum
The Moon Canyon runs on 9 volts only, from an isolated and stabilized power supply delivering at least 400mA, through a 2.1mm jack with negative tip and positive sleeve1. Dr. No Effects is blunt about the current requirement: below 400mA the pedal will not function correctly1.
The 400mA minimum current draw rules out most battery supplies and many low-current daisy chains. Dr. No Effects specifies an isolated and stabilized 9V supply, and the pedal accepts 9V only1.
The Blood Moon edition and the Moon Canyon series
The Moon Canyon was two years in the making, according to MusicRadar, and first went on sale on the full moon of May 30, 2018 at Dr. No's own webshop23. The whole line was a limited run of 350 handbuilds, signed and numbered, each supplied in a Moon Canyon book box with a numbered certificate of authenticity2. The maker describes the pedal as "a Novel by Dr. No Effects in collaboration with Sarah Lipstate (Noveller)," concept, execution and 100% hand manufactured by Dr. No Effects1.
The 350 pedals were released in series of 50, and the Blood Moon finish marks three of them13:
| Series | Finish | Date |
|---|---|---|
| 01/50/350 | Moon Canyon | March 2018 |
| 51/100/350 | Moon Canyon | June 2018 |
| 101/150/350 | Moon Canyon | August 2018 |
| 151/200/350 | Blood Moon Edition | March 2019 |
| 201/250/350 | Moon Canyon | July 1, 2020 |
| 251/300/350 | Blood Moon Edition | July 1, 2020 |
| 301/350/350 | Blood Moon Edition, last edition | 2025 |
All series are sold out13. Guitar Pedal X reported in June 2025 that production was ending "after 104 Mooncycles, with a final flurry of 15 units," and described the Blood Moon Edition as the version "with darker coloured moon"5. The very last pedal, numbered 350/350, was itself a Blood Moon Edition unit; Dr. No announced it as "the last Moon Canyon you'll ever see," and kept number 01/350 for himself6. The edition ended in 2025 after the 350 handbuilds were complete7.
"I've poured my heart and soul into each of these 350 handmade pedals"
The Blood Moon edition's distinguishing features against the original Moon Canyon are cosmetic: the sparkle dark blue coating, the red Blood Moon moon-cycle light on a gold leaf background, and four blue LED footswitches1. The maker later released a small number of archive units, including Blood Moon editions, describing that as the only opportunity to get one, and sells a replacement book box as merchandise for both the Moon Canyon and Blood Moon Canyon8.

Questions
How many Blood Moon Moon Canyon pedals were made?
The Blood Moon edition was a limited series of 50 handbuilds within the overall Moon Canyon run of 350 pedals. The Blood Moon builds appeared as three series: 151 to 200, 251 to 300, and 301 to 350, the last edition of the line. All are sold out.
Who designed the Dr. No Moon Canyon with Sarah Lipstate?
The Moon Canyon was designed and 100% hand manufactured by Dr. No Effects, in collaboration with Sarah Lipstate, the guitarist who records as Noveller. MusicRadar described it as her signature delay, reverb and drive multi-FX, and each of the 350 pedals was signed by her.
Can the Moon Canyon run two amps at once?
Yes. The pedal ends in two mono outputs, which Dr. No Effects says can drive two amps at once, the way Noveller uses it, or feed one output to an amp and the other into a separate chain of effects before another amp.
Can the Moon Canyon delay self-oscillate?
Yes. Guitar.com noted the delay is capable of self-oscillation, and Dr. No Effects says that turning the Repeats knob to maximum, or turning it while a signal runs through, creates oscillation, with Time adjustments above 2 o'clock taking it further.
What reverb does the Dr. No Moon Canyon use?
A single-knob digital reverb based on a high quality Belton reverb brick, voiced as a "Long" reverb. Dr. No Effects says that with a good amplifier or multiple amps it can sound like playing in a cathedral.
