The Ledges Tri-Dimensional Reverberation Machine is a reverb pedal from EarthQuaker Devices, launched on 3 August 20231. It packs three reverb modes, Room, Hall and Plate, into a compact pedal, along with six recallable presets and an expression input2. It was priced at $199 USD (£225 GBP) at launch3.

Room, Hall and Plate reverb in one pedal

Ledges offers the three reverb types most players reach for: Room, Hall and Plate, which Gearnews noted "cover most guitarists' needs"2. Each mode has its own character, and the three basic parameters shape it.

ControlWhat it does
LengthControls the size of the reverb4
DampingDials down the high-frequency content of the reverb to tame reflections4
MixControls the dry-to-wet balance4

How the modes differ, according to the press coverage:

  • Room is the smallest reverb on the menu, settable from very subtle and "boxy" to large room settings3. GuitarPlayer's reviewer found it "delivers everything from tiny crackerbox ambience to slapback at the far right of the knob"4.
  • Hall has more play on the Length dial, giving a cathedral-esque bloom. EarthQuaker Devices describes it as "big, boomy and echoey with distant reflections"3.
  • Plate can go to "bouncy reflections that recycle and reverberate forever" as the Length dial is turned clockwise, or serve as a bright reverb fine-tuned with Damping3.

GuitarPlayer's reviewer, Christopher Scapelliti, found the three modes each have "its own unique sonic character, with plenty of variety available"4.

Live mode and Preset mode

Ledges runs in two modes, set from the preset button4.

  • Live Mode is a WYSIWYG mode in which the pedal sounds just as its controls would suggest3.
  • Preset Mode lets you ignore the controls and recall your presets3.

The preset button saves and recalls your favorites, and it indicates which mode you are in: it glows green in Live mode and red in Preset mode4. A six-position rotary switch acts as the preset bank, giving six user-definable settings45.

The pedal also has a TRS jack expression input which works with controller pedals and allows control of any of the three basic effect parameters2. Expression control can be mapped to length, mix or damping and saved in each preset4.

Ledges uses Flexi-Switch Technology, EarthQuaker's silent true-bypass relay-based footswitch, but the bypass is buffered with tails, so reverb tails continue even after you switch the pedal off4.

What reviewers said

GuitarPlayer.com reviewed the Ledges, finding its sounds have "realism, depth and plenty of liveliness that lend guitar tones a three-dimensional quality"4. The reviewer found Hall mode "extremely likable and usable," with length turned up rewarding the player with "loads of reflections and subtle modulations that evoke grand cathedral settings," and found Plate mode "perfect for most styles with length set at minimum and mix and damping at noon"4. The reviewer also noted a trick at the extreme setting: on maximum Length, Plate mode sort of "freezes" the signal, decaying indefinitely, although it never gets quite to runaway oscillation5.

GuitarPlayer's Christopher Scapelliti reviewed it in 2026 and found the sounds have "realism, depth and plenty of liveliness that lend guitar tones a three-dimensional quality"4.

"The sounds on tap here have realism, depth and plenty of liveliness that lend guitar tones a three-dimensional quality"
Christopher Scapelliti, GuitarPlayer4

On the individual modes, Scapelliti wrote that Hall is "usually not one of my favorite reverb algorithms," but that Ledges' version of the effect is "extremely likable and usable," with length turned up rewarding "loads of reflections and subtle modulations that evoke grand cathedral settings"4. On Plate, he found the mode "perfect for most styles with length set at minimum and mix and damping at noon"4. He also enjoyed mapping expression to the Length control in Hall mode, using an expression pedal to create dramatic swells of reverb4.

His overall verdict: "EarthQuaker has plenty of experience making great-sounding reverb pedals, and Ledges is no exception," crediting great sounds from three versatile and usable modes, an easy-to-use layout with six user-definable presets and expression control, and nothing to avoid4.

Questions

Does the EarthQuaker Ledges have reverb trails?

Yes. The pedal uses a buffered bypass with tails, so reverb tails continue to ring out even after you switch the pedal off. The Length knob controls the size of the reverb, setting how long those tails last.

Can the Ledges freeze or self-oscillate?

It can freeze, but not self-oscillate. Guitar.com's reviewer found that Plate mode at maximum Length sort of freezes the signal, decaying indefinitely, although it never reaches runaway oscillation.

What can an expression pedal control on the Ledges?

The 1/4 inch TRS expression input works with controller pedals and can be mapped to length, mix or damping, with the assignment saved in each preset. GuitarPlayer's reviewer enjoyed mapping it to Length in Hall mode for dramatic reverb swells.

How many presets does the Ledges save?

Six. A six-position rotary switch acts as a preset bank, and the preset button saves and recalls your favorites. It glows green in Live mode and red in Preset mode.

Is the EarthQuaker Ledges made in the USA?

Yes. GuitarPlayer's review lists the pedal's build origin as the USA. It is made by EarthQuaker Devices, the Akron, Ohio effects maker.
