The Effectrode Phaseomatic is a tube phaser pedal that also produces vibrato, combining two modulation effects in one all-tube, analog design. RockBoard's PedalPedia describes it as "PHASER VIBRATO", and the pedal is built around the same one- and two-stage "Cathodyne" tube circuitry used in vintage Magnatone amps, along with two additional Cathodyne phase inverters1.
What it does
On subtle settings, Effectrode says the Phaseomatic creates a natural sounding vibrato and shimmering phasing effects. Pushed further, RockBoard's PedalPedia describes richer, deeper vibrato and intense, deep "tunnel" phasing, plus cosmic and spacious sound effects reminiscent of 1950s "B" science fiction movie soundtracks1.
The Cathodyne circuitry is the heart of the design. Effectrode states the pedal uses1:
"exactly the same one- and two-stage 'Cathodyne' tube circuitry"
That circuitry is found in vintage Magnatone amps, which were known for their vibrato. It gives the Phaseomatic a different character from standard phaser pedals, which are typically transistor- or op-amp-based rather than tube-driven1.
In summary, the Phaseomatic offers:
- A phaser, with shimmering phasing at subtle settings and intense, deep "tunnel" phasing when pushed1
- A vibrato, from natural sounding at low settings to richer and deeper when pushed1
- Cosmic and spacious sound effects the maker compares to 1950s "B" science fiction movie soundtracks1
- An all-tube, analog signal path built on Magnatone-style Cathodyne circuitry1
Power requirements
The Phaseomatic runs on 12V DC, center negative, and draws 1000mA1.
With a 1000mA current draw at 12V DC, this pedal needs its own dedicated power supply. It will not run from a battery or a typical daisy-chained pedalboard supply, so plan your power around it.
Related models
Effectrode also makes a Phaseomatic Deluxe, a later incarnation of the design.
The Phaseomatic is Effectrode's tube phaser pedal, built as an analog circuit rather than a digital design1. Effectrode's documentation for the pedal is titled the Phaseomatic Deluxe owner's manual, and the pedal runs from a 12V DC, center-negative supply with a current draw of 1000mA1.
