The FoxPedal The Wave is a delay, reverb and modulation pedal built around classic tape echo sounds. FoxPedal described it as delivering "classic tape delay sounds in an Analog/Digital hybrid," with dual programmable delay times that take it "from simple slap-back all the way to the outer reaches of the universe"1. The pedal was reviewed twice by Pedal of the Day, once in 2014 and again in 2025, and the later review covered the final version, the FoxPedal The Wave Dual Delay Reverb Modulation23.
The Wave is no longer in production. Pedal of the Day reported in May 2025 that the pedal went out of production when FoxPedal announced its closure, and that finding one now takes some digging on the used market2.
What it does
The Wave combines three effects in one box: a tape-style delay, a reverb, and modulation applied to the delay signal. Its delay section is built around three modes, each modeled on a classic tape machine, selected with a three-way Tape Mode knob2.
| Tape Mode | What it does |
|---|---|
| Binson Echorec | One long repeat followed by multiple shorter repeats2 |
| Roland RE-201 Space Echo | Dual rhythmic repeats in a classic warm gritty delay2 |
| Echoplex EP-3 | A classic single analog-sound delay, using just one of the delays for a simpler setup2 |
The Binson mode works a little differently from the others: the Delay 1 knob controls the time between the initial pick strike and when the repeats begin, rather than simply setting a repeat time3. Pedal of the Day noted that the Binson Echorec, the machine this mode is based on, was used extensively by Pink Floyd in their early years2.
The reverb section is built on a Belton V3 reverb brick, which the 2025 review said creates "gorgeous dark natural vibes"2. A reverb level control adjusts the reverb up or down, or disengages it completely, and a Decay control adjusts the room size and the amount of modulation2. In the earlier version of the pedal, the reverb was controlled by a single knob and was lightly modulated for a rich tone3.
The modulation itself is optical, adding tape-style warble to the delay signal. A switch sets it to apply to the first delay, the second delay, or off entirely2.
Controls and switches
Alongside the Tape Mode knob, delay time knobs, reverb level and Decay control, the pedal carries three footswitches. The middle one is where the Tape Speed Slam lives23.
"The middle, soft-touch switch is called a Tape Speed Slam. When depressed, the delay speed increases and it decreases when the switch is released."
Because it is a momentary switch, the speed change only lasts while you hold it down. On the later Dual Delay Reverb Modulation version, the middle switch, called Wash there, instead stretches out the Feedback knob while held, bringing the pedal to oscillation and then back to the knob's feedback setting on release2.
Analog or digital?
The maker's own listing points both ways: it gives the circuit type as analog, while its product description calls the pedal an Analog/Digital hybrid1. Pedal of the Day's 2025 review also described it as an Analog/Digital hybrid2, and the site's 2014 review called it an analog delay3. The practical answer for a player is that the pedal mixes analog and digital elements, with the maker and reviewers using both terms.
What reviewers said
Pedal of the Day reviewed the pedal twice, eleven years apart.
The 2014 review, submitted by reader Adam B, praised the three delay modes as "all dynamic in their own way and you can adjust them to your style of play," and called the pedal "aesthetically, a masterpiece that stands out among anything else you would have on your board"3.
The 2025 review, covering the final version acquired when FoxPedal announced its closure, summed it up as "a great piece of gear for wild tape delays, ambient reverbs and modulation"2.
"Seriously one of the most fun pedals you've ever played, The Wave Dual Delay Reverb Modulation has something for everyone."

Questions
What power supply does the Foxpedal The Wave need?
It runs on 9V DC with a center negative plug, the standard pedalboard supply, and draws 120mA. That current draw is on the higher side for a compact pedal, so a dedicated output from a power brick is a safer choice than sharing a daisy chain with other pedals.
Is the Foxpedal The Wave analog or digital?
The maker's page lists the circuit type as analog, but its own description calls it an Analog/Digital hybrid, and Pedal of the Day's 2025 review also describes it as a hybrid. The 2014 review called it an analog delay. The delay and reverb sections mix analog and digital elements.
What does the Tape Speed Slam footswitch do?
It is the middle soft-touch switch on the pedal. While you hold it down, the delay speed increases, and when you release it the speed drops back. It is a momentary switch, so the effect only lasts as long as you keep it pressed, useful for quick pitch-bent tape speed stabs.
Is the Foxpedal The Wave still made?
No. Pedal of the Day reported in May 2025 that the pedal is no longer in production, after FoxPedal announced its closure. Finding one now means searching the used market, and the reviewer noted you may have to do some digging.
