The Moollon Class A Boost is a boost pedal from the Korean maker Geo Woo, described by Premier Guitar as "the very stylish, top-end Class A boost from Korean maker Geo Woo"1. It takes its inspiration from vintage treble boosters such as the Rangemaster, but adds tone-shaping controls those old units never had1.
What it does
The pedal works two ways. As a clean boost it lifts your signal without changing its character; pushed into an already overdriven amp, it kicks the front end into what Premier Guitar's reviewer called "a tasy harmonic cr[unch]"1. Across its range, the reviewer found the guitar's volume knob behaves like a gain control, so rolling it back and off shapes how much grit the pedal contributes1.
Controls and voicing
Where many newer boosts based on vintage units such as the Rangemaster offer a switching option for mid or bass boost, the Moollon instead gives a three-stage transistor-based EQ1:
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Lo | Drives the low part of the frequency range1 |
| Mid | Drives a select part of the midrange1 |
| Hi | Drives the top end; on full by itself, the pedal sounds most like the vintage treble boosters that inspired it, adding cutting edge and sparkle1 |
| On/Off switch | Bypass with LED indicator1 |
That three-knob layout is the pedal's main difference from simpler treble boosters: instead of one fixed voice, you can blend low, mid and top to taste1.
Build
Inside, Premier Guitar's reviewer found "clean point-to-point wiring and good quality components"1. Point-to-point wiring, where components are joined directly rather than on a printed circuit board, is a hand-built approach usually associated with boutique and vintage amplifiers.
What reviewers said
Premier Guitar's verdict was positive, recommending the pedal for players who "want a vintage-sounding boost with lots of tone-shaping versatility"1.
