The GUPtech Shark + Douche is a special edition of the Shark+, a compact pedal from the Canadian maker GUPtech that works as both a distortion and a boost. GUPtech describes the circuit as its take on three older designs: the MXR Distortion +, the DOD 250 and the MXR Micro Amp. Cranked for distortion it delivers what the maker calls that classic distortion tone, and it can double as a Micro Amp style boost by turning the volume to maximum1.
The Douche edition
The Douche edition was announced on 15 December 2022 as a special edition version of the standard Shark+. It is a distortion and boost pedal based on the MXR Distortion +, DOD 250 and MXR Micro Amp, and at the time of the listing it was sold out1.
"I love that I got the "douche" special paint job."
How players use it
GUPtech's Brian Bunt described his own use of the pedal on his main board1:
"I use it to push another GUP Tech pedal."
That is the classic role for a pedal like this: set as a boost, it pushes another overdrive, distortion or fuzz pedal harder rather than coloring the tone itself, which is how Bunt says he uses it1. Players looking at similar circuits in the GUPtech range might also compare the GUPtech Peeps Clean Boost, the GUPtech Slime Mid-Boost or the GUPTech FrAG Boost, and the pedal sits in the wider field of boost pedals and distortion pedals.
The Shark + Douche edition is listed as sold out on GUPtech's product page as of 26 October 20261.
