The Hudson Electronics Broadcast PG-24V-FS is a limited edition boost and overdrive pedal, made by Hudson Electronics in collaboration with the UK retailer Peach Guitars. It takes the Broadcast circuit, a transformer-coupled, discrete Class-A germanium design inspired by classic recording consoles of the 1960s, and runs it internally at 24 volts from a standard 9V supply1.
Hudson describes the pedal as able to produce "biting clean boosts, subtly coloured and thickened signals with a frayed-at-the-edge quality or, when pushed, an individual sounding overdrive with a fuzzy, fried texture"1. The raised internal voltage is the point of the version: Hudson says the increased voltage gives extra headroom and a tighter low end2.
A transformer-coupled germanium boost and overdrive
The Broadcast circuit pairs a selected germanium transistor in the drive section with a specially chosen TRIAD Magnetics steel-core transformer, which Hudson selected for the way it saturates21. The design draws its inspiration from classic recording consoles of the 1960s, where transformer-coupled, discrete Class-A gain stages shaped the sound of what went through them1.
The PG-24V-FS is one of a family of Broadcast versions. Hudson has also released the BC-24V-USA, which likewise runs internally at 24 volts from a standard 9V supply using a voltage booster52, and the Broadcast AP-II5. The PG-24V-FS itself appeared in limited edition runs with Peach Guitars, in finishes including Rosso Corsa red with black, white and silver appointments1, mint turquoise3 and magenta4.
Each pedal is individually hand-built onto a high-quality PCB, assembled, hand-wired, tested and packaged by Michael Hudson1. The build also uses BI Technologies potentiometers and heavy duty foot switches rated for more than 30,000 cycles21.
The PG-24V-FS was a limited edition. Hudson's product pages for the mint turquoise and magenta finishes are marked "NO LONGER AVAILABLE"34, so finding one new likely means hunting the secondhand market.
The controls
The PG-24V-FS carries two foot switches and a small control set, with the gain modes selectable from the top of the pedal rather than an internal switch1.
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| LEFT FOOT SWITCH | Bypasses the pedal; a red LED indicates the pedal is active4 |
| RIGHT FOOT SWITCH | Toggles between LOW and HIGH gain modes; a green LED indicates HIGH gain mode is selected1 |
| GAIN TRIM | Controls the gain level in both LOW and HIGH gain modes; at higher settings the high end of the signal is gently rolled off2 |
| LOW CUT | Attenuates the low end; sits at the front end of the circuitry, so it is interactive with the gain controls2 |
| INTERNAL TRIMMERS | Set the gain range for each mode, LOW trimmer to the left and HIGH to the right1 |
The foot switchable gain modes are a defining feature of this version. Each mode has its own level control, so a player can set a clean-ish boost in LOW mode and a heavier drive in HIGH mode and move between them mid-song1. The internal trimmers set how far each mode can go: the HIGH gain trimmer can be set anywhere from a slight gain boost through to full-on fuzz2.
The LOW CUT control rewards experimentation. Because it sits at the front end of the circuit, cutting bass before the gain stage changes how the germanium transistor and transformer react, not just how much low end you hear2.
Power: 9V in, 24V inside
The PG-24V-FS runs internally at 24 volts, but it is fed by an ordinary 9V supply2. The pedal contains a voltage booster that raises the supply voltage from 9V up to 24V inside the chassis, the same approach used in the BC-24V-USA5. That internal step-up is what Hudson credits for the extra headroom and tighter low end2.
The requirements on your power supply are modest:
- 9V DC
- Minimum current of 50mA
- 2.1mm negative center barrel plug1
There is no battery option: the Broadcast requires a DC power supply unit2.
Hudson's warning is explicit: do not attempt to run this pedal at power supply voltages higher than 9.6VDC, as this may damage the pedal and void its warranty1. The 24V rail is generated internally; feeding more than 9V (or 9.6VDC at the outside) from your supply gains nothing and risks the pedal.

Questions
Does the Hudson Broadcast PG-24V-FS take a battery?
No. The Broadcast requires a DC power supply unit (PSU). Hudson specifies a supply delivering 9V, a minimum current of 50mA, and a 2.1mm negative centre barrel plug. There is no battery option, so it needs a spot on a power supply or an isolated output to run.
What happens if I power the Broadcast PG-24V-FS above 9 volts?
Hudson warns against running the pedal at power supply voltages higher than 9.6VDC. Doing so may damage the pedal and void its warranty. The 24 volts the circuit runs at is generated internally from a standard 9V supply, so there is no reason to feed it more from outside.
How do I change the gain range on the Hudson Broadcast?
Inside the pedal are internal trimmers that set the gain range for each mode, with the LOW gain mode trimmer to the left and the HIGH to the right. The HIGH gain trimmer can be set anywhere from a slight gain boost through to full-on fuzz. The external GAIN TRIM knob then controls the gain level within those ranges.
What is the difference between the Broadcast PG-24V-FS and the original Broadcast?
The PG-24V-FS keeps the same transformer-coupled, discrete Class-A germanium circuit but runs it internally at 24 volts from a standard 9V supply, which Hudson says gives extra headroom and a tighter low end. It also makes the LOW and HIGH gain modes foot switchable, each with its own level control. It was a limited edition made with Peach Guitars.
Is the Broadcast PG-24V-FS still available?
The limited edition runs appear to have sold through. Hudson's own product pages for the PG-24V-FS in mint turquoise and magenta finishes are marked no longer available. The Broadcast circuit lives on in other versions, such as the Broadcast AP-II and the BC-24V-USA.
