The Hungry Robot Moby Dick Multihead Tape Style Delay V3 is a stereo tape-style delay pedal, now in its third edition. It expands the earlier mono five-knob design into an eight-control workstation with full stereo inputs and outputs, onboard tap tempo, and a set of controls that shape the tape-like character of the repeats: Saturation, FM Texture, Wow & Flutter, Tape Age and a Double Tracker. It lists for $272 on the Hungry Robot Webstore as of February 2026.12

What it is and what it does

The Moby Dick emulates the sound of a tape delay rather than using actual tape, and the V3 leans into that character with dedicated controls for each tape behavior. Delicious Audio's Christopher Scapelliti describes it as aimed at players seeking a fully stereo tape delay with direct control over its features, and notes that the pedal expands from a straightforward mono five-knob emulation into a sophisticated eight-control design.1

Guitar Pedal X's Stefan Karlsson, covering the February 2026 reissue, called it "a really cool properly full stereo multihued tape style delay."2

The controls

ControlWhat it does
Multihead toggleShifts the rhythmic subdivision between dotted eighths and quarter-note triplets, or switches the effect off entirely for a standard single-head delay1
SaturationAdds harmonic richness1
FM TextureWhite noise mod / Lo-Fi2
Wow & FlutterTape-style pitch modulation2
Tape AgeDarkens repeats with a filtering weariness1
Double TrackerIntroduces fullness and subtle chorus via layered doubling1
Blend and RepeatsFunction traditionally1

Alongside the eight panel controls there is a Tap Tempo footswitch and a Bypass footswitch, and tap tempo remains onboard from earlier editions.12

The Multihead toggle is the pedal's defining feature: it is what gives the delay its multihead character, letting you set a second repeat head at a dotted-eighth or quarter-note-triplet subdivision, or turn that head off for a plain single-head delay.1

How the V3 differs from earlier editions

The Moby Dick has been through three editions. The V2, covered on its own page Hungry Robot Moby Dick V2, was a smaller mono pedal. The V3, reissued in February 2026, is "a significantly different pedal," in Karlsson's words, "with lots more shaping elements to adjust the nature and degree of delay," and it is the first edition with full stereo ins and outs.2 Delicious Audio frames the same change as a move "from a straightforward (mono) five-knob emulation into a sophisticated eight-control" design.1

The V3 is a different pedal from the earlier mono editions, not a cosmetic refresh. If you are replacing a V1 or V2, expect a larger control set and stereo inputs and outputs rather than a like-for-like swap.12

What reviewers said

Guitar Pedal X's verdict on the V3: "All-round really compelling and well worth your consideration."2

Questions

What does the Tape Age control do on the Moby Dick V3?

Tape Age darkens the repeats with a filtering weariness, in the way worn tape loses top end as it plays back. It sits alongside Saturation, which adds harmonic richness, so the two together let you shape how clean or degraded the delayed signal sounds as it repeats.

Does the Moby Dick V3 have tap tempo?

Yes. The V3 has an onboard tap tempo, carried over from earlier editions. Alongside the eight panel controls there is a Tap Tempo footswitch and a Bypass footswitch, so you can set delay time in time with the song and switch the effect from the floor.

Is the Hungry Robot Moby Dick V3 stereo?

Yes. The V3 is fully stereo, with full stereo inputs and outputs. Earlier editions of the Moby Dick were mono, so the V3 is the first version of the pedal built for players running a stereo rig or a stereo effects loop.

How is the Moby Dick V3 different from the V2?

The V3 is a significantly different pedal from prior editions. It grows from a straightforward mono five-knob emulation into an eight-control design with full stereo ins and outs, adding Saturation, Wow & Flutter, Tape Age, Double Tracker and FM Texture controls, with Blend and Repeats functioning traditionally and tap tempo remaining onboard.

Is the Moby Dick a real tape delay?

No. It is a tape-style delay, meaning it emulates the character of tape rather than using actual tape. Guitar Pedal X described it as a properly full stereo multihued tape style delay, and the controls model tape behaviors such as wow and flutter, saturation and tape wear.
