The Iceberg Effects Frits is a multi-mode modulation pedal that covers flanging, chorus, modulated slapback delay and faux reverb, and, in the maker's words, "everyting in between"1. It is an analog, stereo in stereo out design with completely independent left and right channels, based by the maker on "the reel-to-reel tape machines from yesteryear"1. Delicious Audio reported it as Iceberg Effects' latest release in August 2024, with the name Frits being "the mittle-European term for 'Fries'"2.

The Frits draws 125mA at 9V DC, so it needs its own adequate power supply output rather than a low-current daisy chain1.

Modes and sound

The type of effect is set by a central 3-way toggle offering Flanger, Chorus/Vibrato, and Delay/Reverb2. The maker also describes a choice between "smooth sine wave modulation and worn-tape-like random modulation"1, which shapes how the modulation moves. For a sense of where the Frits sits among related effects, see Flanger Pedals, Chorus Pedals, Vibrato Pedals, Delay Pedals and Reverb Pedals.

Controls

ControlWhat it does
Rate, Depth, MixFixed knobs; the analog Mix control goes from full dry to full wet, which the maker notes gives vibrato at full wet21
Level BControls Rate, Depth or Feedback/Lag depending on the position of the toggle next to it2
FDB/LAGControls Feedback in Flanger or Delay/Reverb mode, and Lag (delay time) in Chorus/Vibrato mode2
Central 3-way toggleSelects Flanger, Chorus/Vibrato or Delay/Reverb2
Modulation characterChoose between smooth sine wave modulation and worn-tape-like random modulation1

Stereo and wet/dry use

The left and right channels are completely independent, providing stereo in stereo out1. In Direct mode, the left and right channels can be enabled and disabled individually, which RockBoard's PedalPedia says allows you to "easily use the pedal in " a wet/dry setup1.

Footswitch modes and linking

The Frits has two footswitches with several operating modes, described by Delicious Audio2:

  • Preset Mode: the left footswitch triggers preset B2
  • Direct Channel Selection Mode: the left footswitch enables/disables the left channel and the right footswitch enables/disables the right channel2
  • Momentary mode: both footswitches can be set so that, if held for more than half a second, they return to the other position when released2

The two effects can also be linked, with three linking behaviors2:

  • Toggle: enabling one effect automatically toggles the state of the other linked effect
  • One-at-a-time: turning on one effect automatically disables the other linked effect; both can be off at the same time, but not on
  • Always-on: disabling one effect automatically enables the other linked effect; both can be on at the same time, but not off
