The "Relic" Pink Flow is a custom artwork version of the Pink Flow, a complete analog multi-effect from JAM Pedals designed to bring Pink Floyd-inspired textures to a live or recording rig while staying versatile enough for general use. JAM Pedals lists it as a MULTI-PEDAL: a single large enclosure holding a full chain of effects rather than one circuit. The "Relic" edition shares its sound with the SteamPink and Evil Flow versions, differing only in the hand-painted artwork1.

The signal chain

The Pink Flow's eight stages run in a fixed order inside the enclosure1:

  1. Seagull
  2. Dyna-ssoR
  3. Tubedreamer
  4. Red Muck
  5. Send/return loop
  6. WaterFall
  7. Ripple
  8. Delay Llama

The names will be familiar to players who know JAM Pedals' individual pedals: the Tubedreamer is the company's take on a Tube Screamer-style overdrive, and the Delay Llama is its analog delay, both of which also appear as standalone units. The send/return loop sits in the middle of the chain, between the Red Muck and the WaterFall, which means external pedals can be patched in after the drive and fuzz stages but before the modulation and delay1.

The Ripple stage adds smooth two-stage phasing with a single Speed control, according to JAM Pedals' description of the same chain on the SteamPink page2.

The buffer

A selectable buffer is positioned before the send, and it is set at power-up rather than with a switch: hold the Seagull footswitch while powering the unit on, and two blinks indicate the buffer is off while three indicate it is on1. Because the setting is changed only at power-up, a player who wants to switch the buffer will need to power the unit down and back up rather than reach for a toggle mid-set.

Bypass and power

Bypass is selectable between true bypass and buffered bypass1, so the unit can be matched to the rest of a rig: true bypass where a player prefers the signal to pass untouched when the unit is off, or the buffer where long cable runs or pedalboard chains would otherwise dull the top end. Power is 9V DC, center-negative1.

The buffer setting is changed by powering up while holding the Seagull footswitch, so the Pink Flow will need to be disconnected from power and reconnected to switch it. A stable, correctly polarised 9V DC supply is required1.

The custom artwork editions

JAM Pedals offers the Pink Flow in several custom artwork versions: the "Relic" edition covered here, the "SteamPink" and the "Evil Flow". The company states that they are the same sound with different artwork123. Every custom artwork pedal is a one-of-a-kind hand-painted piece, and JAM Pedals notes that the pedal a player receives will differ in detail from the photos shown, making it uniquely theirs1.

The Pink Flow sits alongside JAM Pedals' other multi-effect line, the Koch Ness Monster units developed with guitarist Greg Koch, covered separately on the Koch Ness Monster page. For the wider category, see Multi-effects Pedals.
