The JHS Boss DD-20 Soft Touch Mod is a modification service from JHS Pedals for the Boss DD-20 Giga Delay, a long-running digital delay pedal. Rather than selling a new pedal, JHS takes the DD-20 and installs standard, high-quality soft-touch foot switches on both of its foot pads, replacing the stock pad-style switches that many players find hard to hit reliably on stage1.
Why the mod exists
The stock DD-20 uses pad-style foot switches, and JHS points out that you have to hit the bottom 20% area of those Boss pad-style foot switches to trigger them, which can be awkward when stomping with a foot on a dark stage1. The mod fixes that by fitting conventional soft-touch switches in place of both pads, so switching modes or storing sounds works the way players expect from a standard footswitch pedal1.
The pedal it fits
The DD-20 itself is a feature-heavy delay. It offers 11 modes, including the "Smooth" and "Twist" delays and sound-on-sound recording2, and its Mode control selects from what Pedal of the Day's reviewer called "a multitude of fun delay settings"3. The pedal has an LC display and a headphone output, and its modulate mode adds modulation to the echoes, which the DIY Fever reviewer found makes the sound bigger4.
This is a modification to an existing pedal, not a standalone product. The DD-20's pad-style switching is the stock design; the mod replaces it.
If you are weighing the DD-20 against other options, JHS's own delay range covers everything from the compact JHS 3 Series Tape Delay to the JHS Panther Analog Tap Tempo Delay, and the site's delay pedals page sets out the wider field.
