The JHS EHX Lizard Queen is an octave fuzz distortion pedal, a collaboration between JHS Pedals and Electro-Harmonix. Jef, writing on gearnews.com, describes it as "An octave fuzz distortion that never was, but which takes its inspiration from those classic EHX pedals": a design that imagines what Electro-Harmonix might have built, rather than reissuing a specific vintage unit1. Electro-Harmonix and JHS Pedals are named as its makers on the product page for the circuit2.
What it does
The pedal has two voices, selected by mode:
The Volume control sets the output level1. As an octave fuzz, it sits alongside other octave and fuzz designs in JHS's range, such as the JHS Coyote, and relates to the wider family of Fuzz Pedals and Octave & Pitch Pedals.
Where it came from
The circuit was originally designed, in secret, by Josh Scott of JHS Pedals as what gearnews.com calls "a loving tribute to the historic sound and design of the iconic Electro-Harmonix effects of the 1970s-1980s"1. The collaboration later continued with the JHS x EHX Big Muff 2.
Versions
The Lizard Queen was available in two versions1:
| Version | Notes |
|---|---|
| Limited edition big box | Limited to 1000 pieces, with a Certificate of Authenticity1 |
| Standard nano version | The standard production format1 |
The limited edition big box version was restricted to 1000 pieces. gearnews.com reports the Certificate of Authenticity was "JHS' attempt to stop people from buying and flipping them on auction sites"1.
