LunaStone TrueOverDrive TOD 1

The TrueOverDrive TOD 1 is an overdrive pedal from LunaStone, the maker also behind the Three Stage Rocket and the wider TrueOverDrive family. It sits in the overdrive lane: a gain pedal used to push an amp or add grit and sustain on top of a clean tone.¹

What it does

LunaStone's own demonstration material presents the TOD 1 as a pedal that builds a "very cool, soaring guitar tone" by adding gain gradually, starting from a clean sound so the listener knows the exact starting point, then adding a little gain at a time until the tone soars.¹

The TOD 1 has a sibling, the TrueOverDrive TOD 2, which is also an overdrive and is presented by the maker as a variant of the TOD 1. LunaStone's demo material shows the two pedals played side by side, so a player weighing them can hear the difference in gain character directly.¹

Hearing it demonstrated

Guitarist Chris Buck has demonstrated the TOD 1 for the maker. The demonstration opens with a few seconds of clean guitar to establish the exact starting point, then builds a soaring tone by adding gain step by step.¹
