Mojo Hand FX RVT

The Mojo Hand FX RVT is a compact pedal that packs three vintage amplifier effects into one box: reverb, tremolo, and pitch vibrato. Mojo Hand FX describes it as offering "three popular on-board vintage amplifier effects in one compact enclosure," with the modulation side voiced after the built in effects of 1960s amps1. It is a DSP based design, meaning the sounds are generated digitally rather than by analog circuitry, and the maker says those vintage amplifiers were used directly in voicing it1.

The idea is simple: instead of carrying an amp with spring reverb and a tremolo or vibrato circuit, you get a spring style reverb that is always available, plus a modulation effect you choose between tremolo and vibrato. Delicious Audio described it on launch as "a compact, two-mode circuit that offers a spring-style Reverb with either Tremolo or Vibrato"2. For a player building a small board, it covers two effect families at once: reverb pedals and tremolo pedals or vibrato pedals, depending on where the switch sits.

What it does

The RVT splits its work between a reverb section and a modulation section. The reverb is a spring style emulation, the kind of sound built into vintage amp heads, and its amount is set by its own knob. The modulation side is where the two-mode design comes in: a single V/T switch chooses pitch vibrato or tremolo, and the Speed and Depth knobs are shared by whichever mode you pick3.

Pitch vibrato and tremolo are related but different effects. Tremolo raises and lowers the volume of the signal in a repeating cycle; pitch vibrato wobbles the pitch itself, the effect you get from an amp with a true vibrato circuit or a lightly biased pitch shifting modulation. Because the RVT offers a two-mode circuit with either tremolo or vibrato rather than running both, the Speed and Depth controls only need to serve the selected effect at a time, which keeps the control set down to three knobs and one switch234.

Gearnews noted at launch that "You can switch the 'main' effect between tremolo and vibrato via the central pressure switch"5. The reverb runs independently of that choice, so you can have the spring style wash behind either modulation mode.

The controls

The control set is deliberately minimal. Mojo Hand FX lists four controls on the pedal3:

ControlWhat it does
RReverb amount. Just like amp reverb; turn it up to get more.
SpeedControls the speed of the selected effect.
DepthControls the depth of the selected effect.
V/T SwitchPitch Vibrato (switch up) or Tremolo (switch down).

That is the whole interface. Pedal of the Day, reviewing it in 2022, found this a strength rather than a limitation4:

"Lots to explore in just three knobs and one switch, and that's just the way we like it."
Pedal of the Day4

The reviewer called it "a beautiful pedal full of classic sounds" and praised the achievement of fitting three effects into a small box: "When you can fit three classic effects into one less-than-normal sized enclosure, you're doing something right"4.

Power and practicalities

The RVT runs on a standard center negative 9V DC supply, which is not included, and there is no battery operation1. Gearnews confirmed the same at launch, noting the pedal "run[s] via an external 9 Volt power supply only, so no batteries"5. Current draw is approximately 65mA1, low enough for most isolated pedalboard supplies and even many daisy chain setups with headroom to spare.

At 4.42" long by 2.39" wide by 1.24" high1, the enclosure is smaller than a standard single effect pedal, which is part of the point of the design.

The RVT has no battery option and ships without a power supply. You will need a 9V DC center negative adapter or a pedalboard power source before it will run.

Where it came from

At launch, the first 100 pedals sold shipped with a free WingMan by Option Knob, an accessory that replaces a knob and allows foot control of that knob's function52. That was a launch promotion in 2019, not an ongoing inclusion.

Versions and pricing

The pedal is currently sold as factory B stock at a sale price. The regular price is $149.00, with B stock units at $126.001. Mojo Hand FX describes the B stock as "almost new" pedals that may have minor scratches, paint overspray, or other minor finishing blemishes, with no major defects, and each comes in its original box with the standard lifetime warranty1.

B stock units are cosmetically imperfect but fully functional, and the lifetime warranty applies to them the same as new units.

What reviewers said

Published coverage has been positive about the concept and the size. Pedal of the Day's 2022 review, which included a demo, highlighted the range of sounds available from the small control set and the classic character of the effects4. Launch coverage from Gearnews and Delicious Audio focused on the two-mode design and the vintage amp voicing, with Delicious Audio noting the spring style reverb as the constant element across both modes52.

Questions

Does the Mojo Hand FX RVT take a battery?

No. The RVT runs on an external 9V DC power supply with a standard center negative plug, and there is no battery operation. The supply is not included with the pedal, so you need to provide your own. At roughly 65mA of current draw it is easy to power from most isolated pedalboard supplies.

Can you use the tremolo and vibrato at the same time on the RVT?

No. The RVT is a two-mode design: the V/T switch selects either pitch vibrato (switch up) or tremolo (switch down), and the Speed and Depth knobs are shared by whichever effect you choose. The reverb is always available alongside the selected modulation effect, but tremolo and vibrato cannot run together.

Is the Mojo Hand RVT analog or digital?

It is a DSP based pedal. Mojo Hand FX says vintage 1960s amplifiers were used in voicing it, so the digital processing is aimed at the sounds of old amp built in reverb, tremolo and vibrato circuits rather than modern studio effects.

How much power does the Mojo Hand FX RVT need?

It needs a 9V DC supply with a standard center negative connector, drawing roughly 65mA. The power supply is not included and the pedal does not run on a battery, so plan on a pedalboard power source or a dedicated 9V adapter.
