The MOOER Micro PreAMP 007 Regal Tone is a compact preamp pedal that puts the preamp section of a tube amplifier on a small pedalboard-friendly enclosure. RockBoard's PedalPedia describes the Micro Preamp series as "sonically accurate digital recreations of the preamp sections of popular tube amplifiers," and the Regal Tone is based on "a boutique, hand built, all American vintage style combo"1. In practice that means it replaces the front end of an amp: it takes your guitar's signal, applies the gain, EQ and character of the modeled preamp, and hands it on to a power amp, a cab simulation, or a flat-response setup.
Two channels, two modes and cab simulation
Every Micro Preamp, the Regal Tone included, ships with the same core architecture23:
- Dual channels, with independent gain, volume and EQ parameters across the line14
- An integrated speaker cabinet simulation1
- Dual operating modes1
MusicPlayers.com's press coverage of the line put it the same way: "All Mooer Micro Preamp come complete with dual channels, integrated speaker cabinet simulation, and dual operating modes"3.
The dual channels matter because they give you a clean side and a driven side from one pedal. Guitar Interactive Magazine, covering the series, described "Dual channels with independent gain, volume and EQ parameters"4, so each channel can be set up as its own voice rather than a single tone with a boost stacked on it. The dual operating modes are what let the pedal sit in different rigs: with the built-in cab simulation engaged it can run straight into a power amp, audio interface or flat-response system.
On tone, the maker's sound description for the Regal Tone promises "warm fat mids, pure clarity and luscious depth just like the real thing," with a drive channel that "adds more punch and fatness plus a tasty breakup without getting over saturated"1.
Where it sits in the Micro Preamp range
MOOER launched the series with "a set of 10 models, each based on a different popular tube amplifier from a range of manufacturers"1, and the Regal Tone is number 007 in that run. The range later grew past the original ten: MusicRadar reported that the 018 is "based on a 100-watt Plexi-based boutique signature amp"51.
| Model | Position in the range |
|---|---|
| Micro PreAMP 001 Gas Station | One of the original ten models1 |
| Micro PreAMP 007 Regal Tone | Based on a boutique, hand built, all American vintage style combo1 |
| 008 Cali-MK 3 | One of the original ten models1 |
| 010 Two Stones | One of the original ten models1 |
| 013 Match Box | One of the original ten models1 |
| 014 Taxidea Taxus | One of the original ten models1 |
| 017 Cali MK IV | One of the original ten models1 |
| 018 Custom 100 | "based on a 100-watt Plexi-based boutique signature amp"5 |
If you want the same dual-channel, cab-sim idea in a newer format, MOOER's later Preamp Model X2 line takes the concept further.
Analog or digital?
The maker's own listing carries both descriptions: the PedalPedia page tags the circuit type as analog, while the same page describes the Micro Preamps as digital recreations of tube amp preamp sections1. The two statements disagree, and the series description as a digital recreation is the one MOOER applies across the whole line.
Power
The Regal Tone runs on 9V DC, center negative, and draws 300mA1.
At 300mA1, the Regal Tone draws more current than many pedals its size. A low-output daisy-chain output or a small battery-style supply may not run it reliably, so give it a dedicated output on a pedalboard power supply.

Questions
What power supply does the Regal Tone need?
The Regal Tone runs on a 9V DC, center negative power supply. It draws 300mA, which is a relatively heavy draw for a pedal this size, so it needs its own supply output or a power brick with enough current on tap rather than a shared daisy chain with low-current outputs.
Is the Regal Tone analog or digital?
MOOER describes the Micro Preamp series as sonically accurate digital recreations of the preamp sections of popular tube amplifiers, and the Regal Tone follows that approach. RockBoard's PedalPedia listing also tags the circuit type as analog, so the two descriptions sit side by side on the maker's own page.
How many channels does the Regal Tone have?
It has dual channels, and across the Micro Preamp line those channels carry independent gain, volume and EQ parameters. It also offers dual operating modes and an integrated speaker cabinet simulation, so it can feed a power amp or flat-response cab emulation directly.
What amp is the Regal Tone based on?
MOOER says the Regal Tone is based on a boutique, hand built, all American vintage style combo. It does not name the amplifier. Other models in the series are each based on a different popular tube amplifier from a range of manufacturers.
